Argumentative Essay: The Legalization Of Campus Carry
Campus Carry According to the Texas Department of Public Safety on August 1st of 2016, the right for an authorized licensed handgun holder to carry a concealed handgun on certain public, private, and/or independent university campuses was granted. Even though campus carry is permitted, open carry is still banned. Depending on the campus certain buildings may be prohibited to campus carry. When there is a building on the campus that does not permit the carrying of handguns, there will be a sign under the Penal Code Section 30.06. This policy also grants the storage of handguns in campus dormitories with the certain campus regulations. BBC News stated, “Texas has now become one of eight US states that allows students to carry guns into …show more content…
I do not believe in campus carry. I believe that campuses should hire more security personnel’s and be required a certain amount of these personnel’s in each building. Depending on the size of the building, would determine how many police/security personnel should be active on site. I also believe that only certain employees should be granted the right to carry. Of course, these certain employees would be licensed and trained in case of an emergency but would be confidential. Only staff of high status would know who these employees are. These certain employees would have to go through evaluations regularly and would only be granted this option for security reasons. This policy’s main purpose would be to hire more trained police officers and security officers in each building throughout the campuses. This policy would also set up safe places throughout the campuses for if students need to find …show more content…
Also, certain employees that are trained and evaluated should be granted the right to carry. Another recommended course of action should be to add more security cameras and metal detectors. All this security is ultimately for the safety of the students. This course of action is recommended because it is the best way to solve this situation. For the most part, the safety of students and employees on campus is first

In my opinion, carrying a handgun into a college or university is not necessary for a student. Because college and university is not that kind of dangerous zone where need to arm weapon. College and university are supposed to be a place where student to study. That should be the only reason that student should worry about. However, with the “New Campus Carry Law” passed, student now need to aware of avoid some circumstance which could bring them to face the death line. This new law I could say is not fair to everyone. At first, its can’t be 100% student will carry gun into campus when people need to be at least 21 years old who obtained a concealed handgun license (CHL) to have a gun. So, all the freshmen who attended college or university…

What if you were a teacher and an armed intruder came into your school? How would you protect your students and yourself? If we allowed teachers to carry a firearm that is stored in a locked container a student would not be able to acquire the weapon, and only in emergency situations would the teacher be allowed to remove it from the container. If there was to be a situation where an intruder entered the school building the teacher would be able to protect themselves and the students. There should; however, be a…

My proposal to prohibit handguns is beneficial for a few reasons, the most important of which are the possibility to decrease the number of deaths caused by the firearm as much as possible, improve the position of Arizona in the safety ratings among all US states, and, of course, achieve the establishment of the supremacy of law instead of the rule of revenge or intimidation and harassment in the state as well. Let us take a closer look at the possible outcomes of this change.…

In addition, having a greater number of weapons on campus would cause the number of accidental shootings to grow. Although training is required to obtain a license to carry a concealed handgun, some people are better trained than others. The law requires a waiting period before purchasing a handgun. Suppose an intruder armed with a rifle entered the crowded cafeteria at noon and began targeting students. If one-fourth of the people in the cafeteria carried a handgun and began to shoot back at the intruder, a great number of innocent people could be hit by mistake. Very often incidents such as the one described, people panic; a person attempting to aim at a gunman in order to protect self or…

With the proper training and education on firearms, students and professors would have the ability to neutralize a potential threat and have the ability to protect themselves and those around them. Understanding that it is the duty of law enforcement to protect all of our citizens, it has become very clear that they can not be everywhere and response time to a life threatening situation is not always ideal. Many argue that students and professors on college campuses should maintain focus on education and that allowing firearms on campuses may cause distractions.…

The first reason why guns should be allowed on college campuses is people have the right to self-defense. Practically all debates on gun control anywhere, have at some point come around to the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution which reads, “The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed (Bijlefeld 5). Experts believe that the right to arms can mean the right to self-defense and indeed, for many, the difference between life and death (Bijlefeld 74). Thirdly, concealed-carry prohibitions on university campuses only serve to exclude legal firearms carried by law-abiding adults who have no intention of committing a crime in the first place (Zalneraitis).…

In the article, “Texas Lawmakers Pass a Bill Allowing Guns at Colleges”, written by Manny Fernandez and Dave Montgomery, from the The New York Times, the author discuss about whether guns should be allowed on campus. In the article, they talk about two opposing sides, where one side supports the campus carry law and the other disagrees with the campus carry law. State representative Jonathan Stickland said, “An armed society is a safe society, so any time you have gun control, there is far more opportunity to become victims”. While there is another side where they do not support the campus carry law. An admiral named William H. McRaven said, “I have all sorts of guns. I just don’t think bringing guns on campus is going to make us any safer.” Texas lawmakers made an egregious mistake when they passed a law, allowing guns on college campuses.…

Also, in many campus shootings, professors and students could not defend themselves because those campuses were regulated to be gun-free areas. Though gun-free areas are designed to be safe zones, these shooting sprees show that they are not always safe. In fact, only criminals take advantage of such rules (Burnett). I agree with the idea that professors and students should be permitted to carry guns on campus to protect themselves.…
