Arial Case Study

The 20 habitable volumes of Arial will be divided into three main module types in order to accommodate different lifestyles and demographics. The first module type is a gradient from high population density to low population density. This module design allows for people to live in city environments but still have long lines of sight and access to rural areas. The second type of module is completely urban with a consistent population density in order to give people the opportunity fully immerse themselves in an urban environment. The last module type is rural, which is tiered to offer the ability to have small European-style clustered communities surrounded by farmland and forest with long lines of sight.

4.1.2 Neighborhood Design and Community
Two larger medical centers will be present in the settlement, one in the completely urban module and the other will be centrally located in a gradient module. Each hospital will have 100 hospital beds in order to offer both short and long term for the population the hospital serves.The total number of hospital beds will exceed that of the average bed per thousand people on earth in order to account for fluctuation of illness on the settlement. Each of these main hospitals provides access to specialized care from cancer treatments, surgical services, and intensive care units. One rural and 8 other gradient modules will have small clinics with 2 hospital beds in each, inorder for all residents to have access to health care even if they live in different modules than those that house the two larger medical facilities. These small clinic provide access to emergency care, checkups, and psychological care in order to encourage all residents to be both physically and mentally
These parks have bike and walking trails to encourage physical activity and general well being for residents. The considerable amount of park space present on the settlement also benefits general mental health. Large amounts of green space will give a feeling of being on Earth in nature to counteract the possibility of depression and anxiety that arise when in space for extended amounts of time.
