Bailey Argumentative Essay
Background information was obtained from a social/development history form, an interest inventory and interviews with Bailey Stanton; Bailey’s mother, Abigail Stanton; and Bailey’s teacher, Ms. Elizabeth Thatcher.
Bailey’s mother, Mrs. Stanton, reports that Bailey is a thirteen-year-old seventh grade female attending Hope Middle School in the Valley County School district. English is the primary language spoken at home where she lives with her mother, father, and two sisters age fifteen and seventeen. Also her older brother is usually home from college for weekends. Bailey’s siblings are bright, ambitious, and identified as academically gifted with differentiated education plans. Bailey does not seem as motivated as her three older siblings, yet this has not resulted in any problems. She has a good relationship with all of her family members. There were no pregnancy complications, serious illnesses, or medical conditions. Bailey is a healthy child that has progressed normally through infancy, childhood, elementary and middle school years. From an early age, she was exposed to a literacy rich environment having home access to numerous books that were read to her and many trips to the public library for more books and storytime. She likes her Project Engineering class best. Her least favorite class is English Language Arts, although she does think reading is important to her future. When reading, she prefers fictional mysteries or adventure books. She does not avoid any of her school work, but sometimes has difficulties with time management. Bailey likes hands-on-learning at school, but does not enjoy worksheets or a lot of homework. She does her best thinking was it is very quiet.
