We jogged around the ground and then did some stretching. The coach then quickly briefed us about the drills we were going to do in training. First, we were asked to do “ball control practice”. We were asked to form a circle and then the coach lobbed the ball towards us, we were asked to control it with our feet and chests. The coach gave us guidelines, but I completely ignored them and I thought I was far better of myself as I was very adept and juggling and controlling the ball with my feet. I had assumed that the drill would be a walk in the park for me. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Every time the coach lofted the ball towards me, I failed to control it with my chest and feet and the ball would always fall a yard or two in front of me. Even if I did control it the ball wouldn’t come down that accurately and precisely as it usually does. The coach had a stern look on his face as not only me, but many others too found the drill to be challenging and did not perform up to the coaches expectations. But this did not comfort me as I knew that I did have the potential to do better.
