Bann Green's Looking For Alaska, By John Green
John Green wrote many of books Fault In Our Stars, Paper Towns and Turtles All The Way Down, but his most controversial book was Looking For Alaska. Looking For Alaska has been censored by many schools, libraries and parents. Parents, schools and libraries all thought Looking For Alaska had too much sexual content, influencing drinking and driving, and not be able to speak up when it is wrong, but teens should be able to read this book since it shows real teen experiences through the eyes of Miles.
While Miles always started off as a non-talking character, he was an only child coming from a school where he had no friends. Coming to Culver Creek, in Alabama from Florida, was his choice, his parents did not want him to leave since he was the

For an example Alaska was always there for Miles. Miles went for help and she was always there. There was teacher named Dr Hyde. He was very old and barely alive. Once Miles was daydreaming and Hyde kicked him out, but Alaska stood up and walked out with him. While Alaska was freaking out about having to leave Miles said “ We did not say; Don’t drive, You’re drunk” (Green,132). Proving Alaska died to her drinking and driving. Parents thought that John Green was trying to get kids to drink and drive. Many others thought that it was showing the consequences of doing so.
Mant parents felt this book showed soft porngrophy, trying to encourage kids to drink, cuss and smoke, but if kids never read a book about real kids life and teenage years they may get hurt way worse than knowing about sex, drinking and smoking, Teenagers should be able to read Looking For Alaska by John Green. If teens read this book they can prevent many drinking and driving accidents. They might be able to speak up to something that is wrong and help many others going through teenage like Alaska did to Miles throughout this

I can’t say I’m astonished by the State Board of Education’s decision to ban “To Kill a Mockingbird”. After all, what can you expect from such short-minded people? Such people that regrettably are put in the position to judge what books are moral and fit to be read by young adults. Is it the book’s display of what really happens in the world, or the book’s lessons of protecting innocence and standing up for what you see as right, that makes this book so disgraceful, that we must shelter young minds from?…

The series of novels has its share of bad grammar, questionable behavior, poor language, and bad decisions. But is that to say it should be banned? Junie B. Overall respect in our society is pretty much overrated and now most people don't really care about what their children are learning in school as long as they're passing and some don't even care if they pass or don't. Children now in days are exposed to pretty much everything whether it's something they should or shouldn't see at that point in their age. It is still important that children under the age of 10 tend to not read those kinds of books because of the violence that is shown, if people keep making books like this later on they will start giving them books showing the real images and the real things that happened in the Cold War. Now in days with all the violence that's going on in the world already affects the children because they see it and they think it is a good thing to do because things like school shootings or any kinds of shootings are ok to happen, so think about what your children are starting to learn in school, and help prevent things like this from…

Yet this comes to how just how cruel life can be. After finishing this book, I couldn’t stop thinking about it for days. I’m not going to spoil anything, but the dramatic turn of events is empowering. Anyone, upperclassman in high school and older, who has been through traumatic experiences with rape, self harm, or drug overdose should read this book because they could compare their experiences to what the character have gone through. Yet at the same time, it’s crucial to ban it for younger adolescents because I don’t believe they would be mature enough to handle this type of…

The people who chose to ban this book did have a point, that foul language and violence is not good for a young student to read, but the good in this book should cover up the bad. The foul language in this book was strictly two words, and they were nothing that most students in my school wouldn’t know. As along with the violence, there are video games and movies that have much more intense violence in them, and much younger people view…

Children reading this material can cause them to be scared of asking their parents or teachers for the right answer, and instead lead them to ask their friends or students and they get the wrong idea. Sometimes with the eating disorders, kids can often times act upon that because they think it’s cool, when they really don’t have the right idea about the subject (Library). Books with sexual encounters can cause inappropriate images to young readers that may not be able to handle (Library). Although this novel may offend some parents or kids, others enjoy this novel. If some do not approve they have the option too put it aside and not read it. Adults should not take the fun, adreniline rush, sappiness, etc., away from others. I do think that this novel should be read in High Schools because it shows what it means too be self-sufficient and it also portrays that if you really want soemthing then you have to work for it. This novel is very touching and has a good moral behind it. I think that banning this book is unfair to others. You should be able to read whatever you want, whenever you want. If others are offended they don’t have too read it and cans et it aside and leave it at that. I think that the novel was very interesting, it was also very well written. It made me think about my life more and how well I have it and how much I take it for…

This story has been put on the National Education Association’s list of titles receiving the most complaints from private organizations in 1968, and 4 of 5 students in one classroom said that the book is hard to read and comprehend. It also ranks at number 21 of 100 books most frequently challenged of 2000-2009. This has happened because people don’t understand the academic value of this book, let alone the moral value, which they definitely don’t see. Parents see words that they don’t want their kids to repeat and automatically don’t want them to read it, no matter how great the book is otherwise.…

Some parents may think it is not healthy for their child but it’s not their place to decide what is healthy for everyone else’s children. Many children enjoy reading this book and many parents do not see anything wrong with this book. I believe that if a parent believes the book is not something there child should read they shouldn’t ban the book, simply don’t let your child read it. This is a reason I think this book should not be banned.…

    Banning Catching Fire

I believe that the violence in Catching Fire isn’t as extreme as some people think and it is not necessarily a bad thing. Exposing violence to younger readers matures them by making them realize that violence occurs all around them and they need to learn how to cope with it. I do understand though, why some parents do not want their children reading Catching Fire. There are dark themes, including the murder of children, a corrupt government, and the bitter-sweet of being turned against your loved ones. However, we say that Catching Fire should not be banned because they acknowledge the dark themes as being bad things. For example, Katniss recognizes the corruption in the capital and the hunger games and sees them as things that need to be changed, not as things that should continue. Collins also has extraordinary literary ment. As a reviewer stated, “Aside from being action-packed science-thrillers, these books are also full of powerful themes of morality, obedience, sacrifice, love and survival.”…
