Basic Leadership Course

Leadership courses are such an important part to the enlisted side of the army. Without going to Warrior Leader Course (WLC), now known as Basic Leaders Course (BLS), I probably would not have learned some of the important leader fundamentals that I learned during that course. All I have ever done was compare leaders, including me, to my Drill Sergeants from Basic Training. The only thing with that is, they do not teach you all of the tools necessary to become a complete, well-rounded leader. I am currently attending Advance Leaders Course (ALC) and will be reflecting on my time here. Even through this is a leadership course, you have to also learn how to be a teammate. Everyone here has a purpose to be here and a part to play. Also with that, everyone is a Sergeant so you have to learn to be more diplomatic to resolve conflict. You have to respect others opinions and not just be self-absorbed in your own thoughts and beliefs. Letting other people have a turn to step up and grow showed that I have matured since first coming in. All I ever wanted to do is compete and be better but know I want my team to
As a 35Q we tend to drift though the cosmos in search of meaning and purpose. Here we learned the paths that we could take and the course we are heading on as a Military Occupational Specialty (MOS). More than anything, that information made coming to ALC worthwhile. We learned how to do critical thinking. Critical thinking exercises were greatly needed and it really is something they we should be taught at Advance Individual Training (AIT). I showed myself I could handle trying times when my resolve and integrity was tested. Most of my issues I keep to myself, but when I needing to I vented to a confidant.
