Beatrice Prior is the main protagonist of the Divergent series. She is a young woman who is forced to manage many internal and external conflicts. When dealing with these hardships, Tris loses who she is as a person; she goes through an identity crisis. Although her emotions are complicated, Tris is very determined to overcome her struggles. Throughout the process of finding who she is, Tris makes many difficult decisions; she must choose between trusting herself or others. For Tris, it is very hard to trust others and make decisions because she is very unsure of what her future holds. Despite her obstacles, she learns from her mistakes and does what she believes is the right thing. However, when it comes to relationships, Tris lacks confidence. She is very closed off and she does not make friends very easily. Tris is smart, observant, inquisitive, and curious, and despises showing weakness. Furthermore, she feels the need to please her family and live up to their expectations. …show more content…
She is expected to be someone she is not and disapproves of the separation of the citizens of the government. Tris is a member of Abnegation, one of the five factions of the government. As a part of Abnegation, she is expected to be selfless, always giving to others and putting them first. However, it is hard for Tris to be selfless, unlike her older brother, Caleb. She feels as though she has to live up to the high standards he has set. Furthermore, Tris feels obligated to please her parents by choosing to stay with them instead of choosing her own
