In becoming epidemiologists we have the opportunity to provide thoughtful, scientific analysis to help improve the care of patients and the safety of health care workers. There have been may times that I hear of the new strand of flu or the rise in cancer, I cant help but to want to get to the bottom and find a solution to the problem. I truly believe that in being in a field of this degree you have to have a heart for people; you have to be sympathetic and empathetic to the community of people and patients. Although, you will not have direct contact with the patients you will indirectly help so many people through the research and the many hours spent on preventing the spread of communicable or chronic diseases. At times you may have to come in contact with certain patients, if you take the Ebola outbreak for example. There was epidemiologist walking the streets, alleys and homes to find out the Who? My Introduction to Health Science class has really open my eyes to understanding my career choice with only been in this class for four weeks I have been able to narrow down what I want and have a full understanding of my career choice without a doubt.
