Becoming a Captain
The Cheerleading Captain plays a very important role on the team. The captain’s experience, attitude, and ability to effectively communicate information effects the team’s success. I believe that I would make a great captain because I possess all of these skills.

I am an experienced cheerleader. I have been on the Varsity team for two years. You have taught me what it takes to be on a winning team. It takes hard work, perseverance, never quitting, and a lot of practice. This is invaluable experience for a captain. Also, I have had the privilege of serving as co-captain this past season. This has given me confidence in calling cheers and taught me how to get the whole team’s attention. I have represented Cheer in multiple news interviews. I did not feel very comfortable doing the interviews at first, but this experience has thought me how to represent our squad to the community. Lastly, my two years of cheer combined with four years of all-star competitive cheer has allowed me to acquire a solid stunting skill set. I am an excellent second base, and I know how to help other bases in a stunt group so that the flyer can have a stable transition. This knowledge and experience will allow me to teach others if needed. Should you select me as captain I will continue to work on my skills because a captain leads by example.

A positive attitude is absolutely required from a captain. And, I have a positive attitude. I will confess there are mornings when I am tired or my body is sore but I show up at the gym on time and begin rolling out the mats, and never complain. This is important because if one person has a negative attitude about something it seems to spread like a virus. A positive leadership attitude is essential to correcting others and motiving those who are slacking. I feel comfortable calling a team member out and telling them what they do not want to hear (but need to hear) if that is what it takes to make our squad better. And, I am

    Dance Team Captain

The term captain is synonymous with the term leader. By definition, a leader is someone who is in an advanced position to take the initiative in order to go forth and show the way. A dance captain should be able to make intelligent and creative decisions quickly and efficiently. Dance teams are all about unity. An exceptional group glides across the floor with all of its dancers moving as one. There are no individual standouts. No weak links. But there is one person whose job is to make the team as strong as possible, on the floor and off. It’s one thing to be a good team player, but it's another to be a good captain. Few will have the opportunity to feel the weight of the responsibilities and the happiness of knowing you're making a difference. Being captain of any type of organization in my eyes is a huge job. It’s teaching respect by showing respect. It’s helping 11 girls, including myself, strive and push themselves to be the best dancers I know we all can be. Having the title of captain doesn’t mean being the boss of everyone, being in the front in every dance, or just thinking that the captain should come before everyone else. Captains are the inspiration of the team. They’re the person that everyone on the team looks up too. Being a natural born leader is also a big role of dance team. That means having self-confidence, good communication skills, courage, clear desire to make progress towards a goal, and a fair degree of understanding your fellow teammates. Being a captain requires you to focus on the big picture, doing what’s best for your team even on your worst days. If you’re negative, the team will take on the same attitude, even if everyone else has had a great day. As captain of your dance team, you’ll definitely encounter some sticky situations, like having to confront your friends when they aren’t practicing full-out or telling an injured teammate that she’ll have to sit out a performance. But it’s…

A dance captain should be able to make intelligent and creative decisions quickly and efficiently. Being a dance team captain for the Mighty Marching Lions has so much more to do with choreography and precision. Because we are a part of a Christian marching band, our purpose and our duty to fulfill that purpose is ten times greater than that of a traditional marching band. Without God, we would not have this grand opportunity and because of that we have to do things differently than the world would. We as band members are all working towards a goal which is ministering and showing the world the power of youth through the will of God.…

There are very few people who are lucky enough to be a captain of a team. I am one of those lucky few people. On April 12, I had an audition to try out for a Color Guard Captain position. I had been waiting for that day since early February. On April 15th, the captains were announced. I heard my name, looked at Makayla Hurt, she heard her name, and we could not believe it. Over the weekend, I thought what can I do to help improve the team. Well I can improve skill, change attitude for the better, and how will the decision I made along with our coach of me being a captain affect the team.…

I want to be a Clemson Cheerleader because I love cheering. Since I became a cheerleader in the seventh grade, I have lived for every practice, game, and competition. Cheerleading has given me some of the most amazing memories, friends and mentors and it has shaped a lot of my personal character. Having to work with others to accomplish a common goal teaches you to value other people’s strengths and pushes you to be better communicator and collaborator. Cheering is something that has become ingrained in every aspect of my life. In the off season I help coach a youth all star squad and make sure to tumble three times a week. I also grew up watching college football and going to games and I could never take my eyes off the cheerleaders. They…

I believe that I exhibit leadership skills in school, both in class and on the hockey field, which has helped further develop my organizational and leadership skills. Preparatory school has marked a few of my significant leadership roles, such as being voted class representative for three years, being picked as a library prefect in year four, and finally chosen by teachers to a prefect in year eight. I have also been captain and co-captain of several netball, hockey and rounders teams. I believe that these leadership roles provided a great platform for me to continue to nurture my leadership skills. In addition, I believe that my leadership skills are not just exhibited in school, but also in Church.…

    Cheer Captain

There are many different opinions out there about cheerleaders, many good, and some bad. Some think of them as the girls standing by the football field, but I think of cheerleading as a symbol of all the spirit that we can share, and a token of appreciation toward the team that’s being cheered on. Cheerleading is such a vital part to many sections of the school. If I was chosen to be a captain for the 2013-2014 year, not only would I make sure that any negative opinions were squashed, but the great qualities the squad holds, are emphasized. I have come along way since i started cheerleading. I remember my first day of cheer and how nervous I was to be trying something I’ve never done before, and how inexperienced I was. Throughout the season, I’ve always worked my hardest to pick up new dances, stunts, and cheers right away. Since most of the new girls joining cheer this year have never done cheer before, I find it a privilege to help them grow to become the best they can be athletically, and with their attitudes. I think an important quality of being a captain is always, always, including everyone! I feel like i dedicated my time to be the best cheerleader i can be and also the best person i can be for myself and i have accomplished it, but im not finished yet. I learn new things everyday, you learn in the process. I want the new girls to be the best they can be, i think i can really help them. Actually, i know i can. It's super hard to be confident and i learned that but i built up my confidence i want these girls to experience their first year of cheer and be like "wow". I've discovered myself in so many ways, i want the new team to do so as well. Cheeleading is something im very passionate about and i just want the world to know that. I know my schedule for the next school year will be a problem considering i might not be able to have cheer sixth period, but i will try my hardest to work something out. I need a chance. I…

In freshmen in high school, my coach told me that I was taking charge of the team, since the captain was absent. At first, I was excited that I was able to demonstrate my leadership qualities, but then pressure was piled onto me as I try to figure out how I should behave. However, I took a minute think back to what my captain typically did for warm-ups. What I found was my teammates taking me seriously and respected how I started practice.…

I am a strong team player and where necessary I have taken a back seat allowing more capable members to take the leadership role. For example in the Indian dance team, of which I have been an active member for six years, I contribute primarily as a dancer. Choreography, which is the imperative requirement for a team leader is not my forte and hence I contribute as a participant and I manage the budget or welfare. However this does not limit me from contributing to the team in terms of creative dance moves or stage management. I am open to criticism and consider it essential to share something, which might bring out a better performance. I also encourage the team and organize social events to create opportunity for the team to get to know each other beyond the work…

Regardless of the cliques, you always make sure everyone is included in a fair way, even if that means taking a spot you’d rather not have just so that somebody has a spot at all. You make the team fair by ignoring how high of a level someone is on world cup and focusing on who is actually trying to do their best. You’re always putting a smile on someone's face with your down to earth, funny personality. You balance coaching a peewee team, being captain, and high school/college so well that you make it look easy, you prove that it can be managed. You’re always trying to make this team fun and you have no idea how awesome that is for all the girls afraid to speak up.This team is losing a truly amazing teammate, friends, and captain. I hope that next year's seniors will follow in your footsteps in everything that you do. Thank you for being one of the only people who made me feel welcome on my first…

A community that I belong to is my swim team, and on my team, I am one of the captains. I joined the school team as a freshman and due to my dedication, persistence, and ability to lead I was given the honor of being a captain. As a captain I aim to be a leader that inspires and leads by example. I make sure that I work as hard as the rest of the team, and that they see me as someone they can look up to. Some of my duties as captain are making sure everyone gets into the pool when practice begins, leading cheers to get everyone pumped up before a meet, and making sure everyone gets to their events on time while cheering others on during their events. I also assisted my coach and other captains in organizing events for team building, that introduced…
