Bessie's Monologue
In a city as large as this one there are police. Blue coats and caps devour their body and soul, for if you are a officer that is all you are. You have to take pride in your work and appreciate what you do.

Lifted to his feet they started walking away from the crowd. Knowing that he was drowning in his despair he had finally died. He could have just realized that she was dead and deal with it, but instead he decided to ruin his life. He had not seen Bessie this morning walking by the corner, and he did not see her with another man. In his mind he would never see her again, and maybe he would see no one again. Attacking innocent people with a baton is a big deal. The judge will not go easy on him. If only he had just faced the fact that she was dead.
A husky man with a chestnut suit and bowler hat turned the corner locked arms with a girl with radiance as bright as the sun. Her body was complimented with a beautiful lavender bustle dress.
Seeing that another Bessie was walking towards him, Fred realized what was really going

Edna Vale was a well known name, yet she lived close to my old way of life. The power lines crossed in front of the top rows of windows on the hilly streets and skinny kids with dirty hair played on flaking blue stone sidewalks that tilted at odd angles from years of neglect. Candy wrappers and butts were evident in the sparse patches of grass in front. At the right house, I found my way up worn stairs to where Edna kept an address. There were the dried smells of steaks from indeterminate times along the way.…
