Big Foot
Bigfoot->Bigtalel
Critical Reasoning 1210

The Claim: The "weird" claim is that there is a population of large hairy "ape men" (a non-human missing link) that grow to be up to seven and a half feet tall that are known as Bigfoot or Sasquatch that live in the Northwest part of the United States. Bigfoot is a previously undiscovered creature that inhabits the Pacific Northwest of the United States and other various mountainous areas around the world but has never been conclusively proven to exist. My contention is that there is no such thing as Bigfoot and that there is no credible evidence for the existence of Bigfoot, furthermore I intend to show that the existence of Bigfoot is not the best explanation for what people may think they see. My claim is that Bigfoot does not exist and is most likely combinations of people carrying out hoaxes and people who want to believe being fooled by themselves. When I began my research I learned that there is an abundance of evidence out there for the existence of Bigfoot, there are numerous eyewitness accounts and some pictures of this elusive creature. Although there are many eyewitness accounts of Bigfoot and there are pictures that claim to be of Bigfoot I found that all of the evidence has the same thing in common. First, none of the eyewitness accounts have been corroborated by more then two people or all of the accounts came under some kind of emotional stress. Second, there are no clear reliable pictures that exist of Bigfoot. Even advocates who believe in Bigfoot have to admit that some of their evidence is very shaky.
Consider the following eyewitness account from nationalgeographic.com. Matt Moneymaker had been searching for Bigfoot for years. In the woods of eastern Ohio, he claims he finally came eye to eye with the elusive primate. "It was 2 o'clock in the morning and the moon was a quarter full," recalled Moneymaker. "Suddenly, there he was, an eight-foot-tall creature, standing 15 feet away,

    One of the first sightings in the Point Pleasant area of the, what would later be named, Mothman, was by two couples. Roger and Linda Scarberry and Steve and Mary Mallette were out late that night doing what many couples at that time did. They went “parking.” The first thing they saw was the two red glowing eyes. Then, his dark figure came into view. Roger later told the police, “It was shaped like a man, but bigger.” Startled, they drove off with the Mothman in hot pursuit. They were going over 100 mph and it was keeping up with them zig-zagging above the car. When they got back to town, they noticed it would not go within the city limits were it was illuminated with street lights (Keel).…

    Some more famous run-ins with Bigfoot include, in 1924 Albert Ostman claimed that he was kidnaped by a Sasquatch and held for a week before being released. Also in 1924, there was a case of several miners staying in a log cabin in ape canyon in Washington. They reported that several rock-throwing ape like creatures attached them through the night. In 1950 an experienced mountaineer disappeared after climbing in Ape canyon. Search and rescuers found his foot prints as if he was running from something. Other members said that they felt like something was following them and they felt like they were being watched (Shakley,…

    Events would happen during my research, that would expand my conclusions about the true identity of the Bigfoot. Less than a year into my research, I noticed that the Bigfoot demonstrated some unusual abilities. In fact, during my first encounter with the Bigfoot, I think I was exposed to infrasound. Infrasound is a very low-frequency sound wave. The human ear cannot hear it, but it can have devastating effects on the mind and body. During the before mentioned encounter, I became very scared, apprehensive, and had a mild ringing in my ears. I had the feeling of extreme dread, and had the overwhelming urge to leave the area immediately. I later learned that this phenomenon is a common experience among Bigfoot…

    The first group of primates I mainly observed were the Bonobos, also known as the pygmy chimps to many. On this occasion a youngster running around wildly on two legs and looking back as if something or another Bonobo was following him caught my immediate attention. I sat there observing him for about 5 minutes, he wasn’t paying attention at the observation windows as I was the only person there at the time, he was more focused on looking the back of him suspiciously. He was able to retain his balance and would use his left fist flat to the ground to hold hit body up when looking over this right shoulder. Suddenly he climbs down from a hill area down towards the glass and I noticed something in his right hand. He was holding a brown baby bunny that seemed to be alive. He observes the mammal in his hand with one hand and looks back again at another primate, which I can only assume was his mother or another older Bonobo in the exhibit. The youngster springs into action using bipedal locomotion and his free left hand to swing from the available branches in the ground to go toward the central part of the exhibit. Following him to the central part the youngster is found at the central cliff looking back as if the other Bonobo followed him. The bunny was out of sight as his hands were free at this point pacing in circles, as zookeepers we’re throwing fruits from a higher…

    As stated in the previous paragraph, there are too many eyewitnesses in my eyes to not believe in Bigfoot. You cannot just imagine staring at a tall, dark, mammoth creature like Bigfoot. When you see one, there is no hesitation in what you just saw, and you will know immediately. Another reason which was also previously stated in the previous paragraph, is that footprints are incredible pieces of evidence. Imagine walking in the woods and seeing a fifteen-inch footprint. There is no way, a human is doing making that footprint and if they are, they are not making it without a shoe or as wide as a Bigfoot footprint. Now as a Bigfoot believer, there are reasons to support your other believers. When this conversation is sparked to a debate, there will more than likely be more people who do not believe in Bigfoot than people who do. They normally use some of the tactics as showed in the last paragraph by attacking the fact that no one has found any profound evidence on Bigfoot and no one has recorded a clear image or video of…

    | * Notes: Sasquatch, also known as Bigfoot, is an ape-like creature said to live in the United States and Canada. Although sightings have been reported in numerous states, most reports come from the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. Numerous Bigfoot sightings have also been reported in British Columbia, Canada. In Wisconsin, the Lakota Indians call the creature "Chiye-tanka", a word meaning "Big Elder Brother." Sasquatch is described as a large, hairy bipedal hominoid. Many people think that Bigfoot's relatives can be found in different areas of the world under different names, such as the "Yeti" in Nepal and Tibet. The Sasquatch’s footprints can be twenty-four inches long and up to eight inches wide. People who have reported seeing a Sasquatch, that in addition to resembling an ape, it has large eyes and facial structures that bear a resemblance to a male gorilla. The most common color of a Sasquatch's hair is black. However, several colors have been reported such as dark brown, reddish brown, light brown, gray, and in rare instances, white. Most sightings have reported that the hair on Sasquatch is quite wiry and appears to be matted to the creature. Sasquatches are foragers. A few cases to support this statement are that they have been seen washing and eating wild onions in a stream. Crouching over a water hole washing edible grass roots. There were two piles, one washed and the other unwashed. Walking through a forested area stripping spruce buds off the trees and eating the seeds. It would also pull down branches to eat the buds. Head lights of a car caught a Sasquatch eating apples in front of a house. Many trees had the fruit stripped off higher than a human could reach. Stealing corn and turnips from a vegetable garden, chickens and turkeys also missing. A bedding…
