Presentation Tools

There are many presentation tools available in the marketplace. Their price ranges from low to high. The more the tool has to offer, the more expensive. I chose to review the top three presentations tools in the marketplace - Microsoft PowerPoint, SoftMaker Presentations, and Corel Presentations.

Microsoft PowerPoint
Microsoft PowerPoint is one of the most popular and cost-effective presentation tools today. This tool was developed to be used in conjunction with other Microsoft Office tools such as, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. There are templates and tools provided that help you create the perfect accompaniment to your presentations (2012). Microsoft PowerPoint is available on PCs and Mac computers. There is even a mobile application for all Windows 7 Smartphones. This application allows its users to edit and send files while away from their desktop or laptop computers. One could say that it has improved and streamlined their business life. Microsoft PowerPoint can range from $79.99 to $399.99, dependent on your home or business needs. Microsoft PowerPoint does not have many disadvantages; however, its advantages are numerous.

SoftMaker Presentations
While it is difficult to compete with the most popular presentation tool out there, SoftMaker Presentations does give Microsoft PowerPoint a run for its money. At a comparable rate of $79.95, this presentation tool offers similar features and tools to that of Microsoft PowerPoint. SoftMaker Presentations is a meeker presentation tool that makes it easy to create any assortment of presentations - slideshows, videos or a collection of HTML pages. After a side-by-side comparison with Microsoft PowerPoint, I noticed that SoftMaker Presentations was only missing very minute functions that Microsoft offered. Most of the functions that SoftMaker Presentations omitted were tutorials. SoftMaker is also not available on Macs but did have a mobile application

There are several different ways to deliver a presentation. You can use a slideshow using software such as Microsoft PowerPoint. This allows you to display text, videos, pictures/photos, music etc. Generally a slide will consist of very short bullet points or minimal information so the audience can keep in mind what is being discussed while the presenter gives more information. Presentations can be delivered verbally as a speech, though these tend not to keep the audience’s attention all of the time especially if it is a long speech. Using a projector is another way of delivering a project. It in essence uses a speech type presentation but allows things to be shown to the audience via the projector to keep interest and attention. This method is used a lot in classrooms and during lectures. Flip charts or white boards can also be used as a means of delivering a presentation particularly during interactive sessions where feedback is required from an audience such as while brainstorming or doing a consultation.…

The PowerPoint program developed by Microsoft in 1987 is a technological advancement utilized daily. We use it at work, we use it for school and we see it in other professional environments. This technological tool is very helpful when presenting ideas that otherwise would be hard to put into words or to explain to others without the nifty slides. It seems like everything that involves public speaking nowadays, a PowerPoint presentation is the go-to for it. But sometimes we overuse this tool, taking the effectiveness of it away. In fact, one of the Army’s top commanders, says bluntly, "PowerPoint makes us stupid."…

"Presentation software (also called presentation graphics software) is a computer program you use to organize and present information to others." (University of Phoenix, 2013). The first five steps in creating a PowerPoint presentation would be to first start the program by opening Microsoft PowerPoint. Second you 're going to want to open a blank presentation slide if it hasn 't automatically done so. Third step would involve creating a title or heading page. Next you will begin step four by typing the title of the next page or chapter and begin writing in the bottom box which displays click to add text. Lastly step five would be to add finishing touches this is a step I would add any speaker notes if you haven 't already done so and pictures to meet the standards of the topic at hand.…

Lastly, Microsoft PowerPoint presentations utilize both audio and visual techniques, making for easier understanding. Normal teaching and training is interactive and more effective by using PowerPoint presentations instead of simple lectures. Many executives and managers use PowerPoint for this reason. Executives use this as a strategy to increase sales. Using PowerPoint in front of a potential client shows that you are up with the time. Plus, projecting charts that all can see also makes the presentation more interactive for the client. (powerpoints and apps)…

Both David Wicks and Phil Bird, in their articles on Prezi versus PowerPoint, emphasized on the new way in which presentation can be brought to life by the simple use of a new age tool called Prezi. In both articles, the authors did not really go into details as to what PowerPoint does and how it can be used to also make a presentation look exciting and interesting. This may be because the authors are expert users of Prezi, where as they may have little knowledge on how to use PowerPoint effectively.…
