Michael Brown’s murder resulted in protests for months after his untimely death. The protests and gatherings were brought together to form a feeling of unity within the black community and to uplift one another. According to Lemeiux, “the fight is for the human rights of Black people of all backgrounds.” The protests are held in order to show support and sympathy for the black lives unlawfully taken by white, male authority figures. The systematic oppression and demonization of black males have lead non-black people to believe that the murder and slander of these individuals is somehow justified. It is because of this behavior that there is a need for the Black Lives Matter crusade.
