The song just hit me for so many reasons.”

put their arms in the air and wave them to the beat, he performed the song with high energy. After throwing the sunglasses he was wearing into the crowd, he sang numerous songs from his new album “All-American” such as “No Faith in Brooklyn” and “Top of the World.” He also performed my personal favorite, “Not a Robot” which he added a twist involving the live band. On top of all of his own songs he sang, he played a couple of other artists’ songs and added his own vibe to them. Miley Cyrus’s “Party in the USA” and The Beastie Boys “Fight For Your Right to Party”…

The next page is a collage of words, which we found very empowering and inspiring from various magazines. Moreover, our work does illustrate the matrix of domination and intersectionality because in one of the comics it discusses how even though as a whole were all feminist, we are completely different from one another and face different types of challenges that we both could not relate too. That’s why we have different components to of feminism (Black feminist, Muslim feminist, and Asian feminist.) For the other three pages of our zine we decided to do it on song lyrics we picked “Do It Like A Dude” by Jessie J we picked this song because we feel like this song is about what are zine stands for, which is that woman can do whatever they want and not do what society says they are conform to do. The song is our favorite because the lyrics emphasize power to females. Further in the zine we have a display of a hand-drawn a word bubble that represents all the things that we’ve been called as a woman. Moreover, our theme is about female…

Throughout The Color Purple, and Memoirs of a Geisha, Alice Walker and Arthur Golden respectively present the struggle individuals face to establish self-empowerment within oppressive societies. Both authors explore the degrading effects that marital relationships have on individuals by setting their texts in a society where mostly everyone conforms to the presented social expectations that women cannot depend on themselves. It is also made apparent by Walker and Golden that due to gender stereotypes, characters both female and male continuously contend with themselves to be empowered. However, towards the denouement of the texts, Walker shows that due to adopting a positive mindset Celie is able to achieve individuality whereas Golden suggests…

/ It’s gonna take a superman to sweep me off my feet.” (Stanza 21-22) As quoted above, Tyler seeks a superman and not a superwoman. During the 1900s, the time period that the song was composed and released, even after feminism had revolutionized, women were still seen as the weaker sex. Even though females had made a stand and participated in World War II, it seems that no matter what woman exists with superhuman abilities; they have no power compared to Batman, Superman, etc.…

Media and pop culture figures such as Beyoncé and Nicki Minaj remain the most controversial woman portrayed in the media. Their images are constantly scrutinized as either “hypersexual” or as an intrusive force in politics, one that should “stick to music instead of making political statements”. Though society stereotype them as Jezebels, both of these artists transcend societal norms and reign as highly successful woman in a predominantly-white music industry while setting the example that women can celebrate their sexuality, be confident, be themselves, and experiment whilst enjoying their success.…

“No one is exempt from the possibility of a conscious connection to All That Is.” Alice Walker explores this quote through the story of Celie. Just like the color purple, the truth, no one is exempt from. No one can run away from the truth. It is inevitably inescapable. Starting off in a rather harsh setting, Celie starts off her story at the time she is raped for the first time by her own father. Rather straight forward, Walker captures her reader’s interest right in the beginning of her novel.…
