Never Agree Again In the short story “Norma” by Sonia Sanchez, there was a girl named Sonia and she was very quiet and shy. In math class Sonia did not understand a certain question and the teacher was really bad at explaining. A girl named Norma explained the question instead, she was a genius. Sonia’s favorite class was French until Norma snapped at the French teacher. Then Norma was quiet at school and Sonia did not like French class anymore. Sonia gets really busy with school and stops noticing Norma. Norma got pregnant and was kicked out of school. After highschool Sonia goes to college, then she goes to the library and runs into Norma. Sonia agrees to never agree again, because she looked up to Norma, then Norma disappointed Sonia …show more content…
Norma is a mathematical genius.” Sonia says Norma is a genius because she explains math so much better than the teacher, and when another smart student in the class gave Norma a hard equation, Norma solved it like it was nothing at all. Sonia looked up to Norma because Sonia thought of her as a mathematical genius. Another reason why Sonia looks up to Norma would be in French class when Norma talks to the the teacher in French. Sonia says Norma has a “beautiful accent” and that Norma speaks it smoothly, Norma has a whole conversation in French with the teacher too. Sonia said compliments in her head because Sonia was impressed with Norma’s performance in French. Sonia looked up to Norma because Norma was very smart and successful in school. Then Norma disappointed Sonia because Norma snapped at the French teacher. Norma snapped at the teacher because the teacher got mad at Norma, even though Norma was just trying to talk. Then, after Norma snapped at the French teacher, Norma was quiet and stayed in the back of the classroom. Sonia was disappointed because Norma used to be so consistent in French class, but then she was all of a sudden quiet and sat at the back of the classroom.
