Active Listening Skills is the first article I read. This article was very helpful since it provided me with information on how to help clients improve the quality of their life. It is crucial for a client to know that the interviewer is really listening because the client will open up faster since the client will feel appreciated and respected. The article explains how important it is to listen in order to catch the client’s attention and for the client to respond positively and rapidly and on a deeper level. I learned by reading the article that there are different ways of listening. I have learned that the interviewer should have active participation which means facing the client at all times and maintaining eye contact during the interview/session, to always focus on what the client is saying, and for the interviewer to respond properly showing interest on what the client said. …show more content…
“Reflective listening is a communication strategy involving two key steps: seeking to understand a speaker’s idea, then offering the idea back to the speaker using the Listener’s own words (without paraphrasing), to confirm the idea has been understood correctly.” If the interviewer restates the client’s words, this shows the client the interviewer is really listening and will help the client open up more about the situation. There should not be any type of distractions such as looking at the clock or at the cell phone or looking through documents while the client is speaking. This will discourage the client thinking the interviewer is not paying
