Cablevision System Company Analysis
This paper explores corporate governance for a publicly listed major television cable company in the United States of America called Cablevision System Corporation. Attempts are made to assess the effectiveness of the corporate board by comparing their performance with the fundamental functional requirements of corporate board members in accordance to corporate governance professor Bob Tricker. The company’s conformance and performance are reviewed since both falls under the responsibility of the corporate board. On assessing each function attempts are made by to determine efficiency and identify opportunities to improve or further build while should deficiencies be identified recommendations for improvements are presented.

3.2 The duties and results of the board
Founded by Charles Dolan and operating as a publicly listed company, the Dolan family are reported to the major shareholders of the business, accounting for at least 10% as of March 2011 (Wäscher 2015).

Strategy Formulation
The board has a responsibility to formulate a corporate strategy that identifies the core purpose of the business, identifies the core values and sets a long-term direction (Tricker 2012). These are usually clearly defined in most businesses vision and mission statement, however, no such documentation is easily accessible for Cablevision, instead Cablevision on entering its main office in Bethpage NY and accessible on its recruiting websites only showcases their worker’s rights and the company’s expectations.
