Cambridge High School Case Study
In the Court case of Cambridge High school, It made people think twice about their position within the case. In Orlando of Cambridge High school, both teams got in trouble for praying. This was because the stadium was bought with state taxes. Therefore, the stadium was owned by the state, and they were praying on government property. There has been many strong opinions, and public prayer should be allowed. “Religious Liberties are protected by the first amendment of the U.S constitution, which means that the federal government, despite having a monopoly on education, is bound by law to not interfere with that child’s right to express or practice their religion, regardless of location.” (Guardian Liberty Voice, “ should students be allowed to pray in school?”) Therefore, this proves that the government has a lot of power. But that power should not inflict on that group or child's prayer. Whether the prayer is at a sports event, a lunch table, or anywhere in a public area owned by the government. Those rights should not be …show more content…
Is that what people really want? Then go ahead and end school prayer? “In 1962, the U.S supreme court made rulings that removed prayer and bible reading from public schools. But in the aftermath of the rulings, the nation endured one of the world's longest sustained increase in juvenile crime in its history.” (Michael Cantrell, “Should students be allowed to pray in school”) That one simple prayer can help millions. This is a prime example of the benefits that come out of group prayer. Look at what is happening. Crime is decreasing due to praying. That sounds like a win win. To simplify, Prayer equals less crime. The government or the “Prayer police.” is taking that right, right out of innocent peoples little hands. The government should think about others feelings, not just their own. Us americans we can't stand for that. It is proven by fact that Praying in groups or alone can help for the common good, it reduces

However, society stills considers this a contentious debate that shows this is still a sensitive topic among religious and non-religious Americans. Armstrong Williams writes in his article “We Need More Prayer”, “A few moments of prayer in schools seems a small thing - harmless enough, almost to the point of insignificance. Yet it has provoked an impassioned firestorm of debate about the dangers of imposing viewpoints…” Prayers is school may be innocent enough but it can and does marginal religious minorities. These debates being had throughout the country on the topic of religious prayers in public schools is an issue that almost certain will end in a stalemate. There are far too many voices that are being heard regarding this issue and none seems to be willing to compromise. But this is a good thing. People can agree to disagree and this is good for the country. Expression and speech are two great rights we have as US citizens and we have the right even compelled to use said rights. However the Government is not made up of one individual who has one voice and speaks for all. It is made up of many people with many voices that speak for everyone. Religious prayer simply cannot exist in schools because there are too many religions. It has too many voices of faith and faiths which hosts many different deities. Government and areas of public learning should just…

As the student is giving the prayer there is no open forum as would be the case during public speeches. Without this in place, prayers before sporting events are not considered to be public speeches but are considered to be sponsored by the school. The new policy the school had to elect students to be the spokespersons to deliver the prayers was also criticized, leading the justices to believe the school was still controlling the process. The Court found the voting process that was used by the district of voting for if the prayer would be given at an event and who would give the prayer also caused rival political factions between different religion groups at the school. The voting process would create a majority win over the different religions within the district and that would be the religious voice that all would hear. The policy the district has fails to protect the rights of the minority of students. All the factors resulted in the policy of the district to be…

In the Santa Fe Independent School District v. Jane Doe case they address the idea of prayer in school, specifically prayer before a sporting event. On June 19, 2000 the U.S. Supreme Court, ruled (6–3) that the Texas school policy that permitted “student-led, student-initiated prayer” before varsity high-school football games was a violation of the First Amendment's.…

This brief is in regards to the Bristol School District and their policies. A seventeen-year old student, Suzie, attended Central High School in Bristol, Virginia. During Suzie’s relationship with her boyfriend, Cyrus, she sent him some very revealing photographs of herself. After their relationship ended, Cyrus forwarded some of the most revealing photos to upper classmen in the school. This began to draw unwanted attention to Suzie. It became such a disruption in the school, Suzie’s parents contacted the school principal, Mrs. Sheevers, and forced her to investigate and appeal the situation thoroughly. Principal Sheevers, then confronted Cyrus, who denied having and sending the photographs. Then Principal Sheevers sent the school’s security officer to find Cyrus’s phone to check it for the photographs. When Cyrus didn’t have his…

“Engel and four other parents -- two Jews, an atheist, a Unitarian, and another Protestant -- complained that the prayer was "contrary to the beliefs, religions, or religious practices of both themselves and their children." (Religion in public schools: Engel v. Vitale) After the five parents discussed this topic they came up with a case, and at the end found victory. ” The duty to uphold the Constitution is a fundamental difference between public schools and religious schools.” (Religion and Public Schools).…

In recent years, the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) has made progress towards its ambitious vision of all students graduating from high school as “caring, competent and critical thinkers, fully-informed, engaged and contributing citizens . . . prepare[d] to succeed in college and career.” Since 2012, for example, the reading proficiency of high school students has nearly doubled from 19% to 38%. Yet OUSD continues to face significant challenges, and consistently trails the State of California and surrounding counties in academic proficiency as measured by the Academic Performance Index. In 2014, for example, 56% of students in the state were proficient in English while 43% were proficient in OUSD. There are also disparities upon…

In the“Second Inaugural Address” by Abraham Lincoln, “What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?” by Frederick Douglass, “Runagate Runagate” by Robert Hayden, and “Declaration of Sentiments” by Elizabeth Cady Stanton the speakers talk about a certain freedom that needs to be expanded to different genders and race. Prayer in school should also be allowed in all schools because many students need a time during the school day where they can have a time of silence, so they can talk to God. Not everyone needs this in their school day, but that does not mean everyone is the same way. When the students are able to talk to God, their minds will be more cleared and they will not be focused on the challenges they are struggling with.…

I see school prayer as a moral issue because although it does state in the constitution the separation of church and state, I believe that this issue is just a conflict between religious people and liberal people that don’t believe in religion. I think it is morally wrong to force someone into a religion but I don’t see how prayer does that, if you don’t believe then don’t do the prayer and that is all. B. It is not proper for one religion to impose its morality and doctrine on another if and when they are doing it out of legal bounds, besides that I believe it is acceptable to say what you…

The first reason why I feel so strongly about this, is because we need to regain our moral standards. Since prayer was removed from schools, there has been a drastic change with society. According to David Barton, ever since prayer was removed from schools teen pregnancies have gone up 500% since 1962. The effect of the removal of prayer has not only affected that, but the number of unmarried mothers have risen dramatically. As well as the dropouts, divorce rates, and the student’s SAT scores have steadily declined. All of these results are directly related to the lack of morals. While on the other hand, Christianity teaches morals. With…

Illustrations and meanings will be provided on to further explain this, as well as how colonialism has affected the indigenous world for worse, and lastly, the treatment of women. In the film Difret, patriarchy is depicted for the reason that Meza who is a female lawyer who is representing Hirut, is standing up to the man in power. In the system of the society the men hold the power and the women are excluded from it. In the reading,…
