I thank my dad for bringing out the skill and mindset of an athlete. I not only use my competitive nature on the field but I also utilize it in the classroom. When I was younger, I would despise the person who got a higher grade than me. I wouldn't actually hate them, I would hate that they beat me. But when I would get the highest grade in the class I would feel like I had won the championship football game.…

In this essay, “Beauty: When the Other Dancer Is the Self” by Alice Walker, is about the realization or fulfillment of one's own potential or abilities, and a detailed and harrowing account of how the author's life has been affected by a childhood accident that left her disfigured and blind in one eye and that the world is what we make it to be. As a child Alice Walker has great confidence in herself, her capabilities, and her beauty or cuteness. We see the different changes and her realizations about herself, which she goes through throughout her life. Walker gives us much more than a simple report of what happened in her early years, however. She engaged the readers in delivering a straightforward and attractive story relating to her life as a recollection by also using the accident which happened during her childhood.…

I know my child is a fighter." She said in my ear as she hugged me. My eyes scanned the room landing on the family that was crying. The elder lady whom looked to be fresh out of church with her big floppy hat on and off-white skirt and blouse. She set in a chair across from my mom sobbing like she'd lost her child. I knew cause her cries were of a broken mother. A young girl whom could've been maybe twelve or thirteen was fanning the older lady with one of those paper fans from church. It had a picture of praying hands with a rosary and a scripture on top. The man that was standing next to her rubbing her back, tried helping her up but she wouldn't allow him to touch her. Every time he would say "C'mon momma" reaching for her arm, she would jerk her self…

California Dream When you think of what the California dream is, the amount of dreams is equally colossal to the reasons people attribute a dream to be “Californian”. Many agree a Californian dream to have a few trends: desire for great weather, mobility, access to Hollywood, diversity, free love, and most importantly- housing. Unfortunately, my version of the California dream wasn’t molded by an outside look that’d imagine the gold paved roads of California- but something that has developed beyond my families’ original desires.…

After having a job interview or an important talk with a friend, do you ever ask yourself “why did I shake his hand” or “I should have spoken more clearly and slowed down?” After watching Amy Cuddy Your body language shapes who you are, I believe the main purpose of the speech was to teach people a valuable tool while interacting with others. She emphasizes a lot about the way you present yourself and even the choice of posture you choose. While interacting with others, people gather personal opinions of you when they are observing and analyzing who you are. Thus being said a lot of the strategies she teaches you seem to work and are also backed up by real data.…

You are also following your family as well to go to a new country. This story should sound familiar, because this story had happened to millions of people. That is what illegal and legal immigrants have to face every day before they come to America. Even though we never look into this, people are suffering every day. They have to leave everything behind for a new chance that they never had before. I am here to prove that the process to be a legal immigrant is too long and the actual chances are too slim.…
