Background of the problem or study [10 Marks]
Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) is rated as one of the technology universities in Africa. It is claimed to be the largest university of technology in the Western Cape Province with the number of more than 30000 students registered, with six campuses located across Cape Town. The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in various fields of study.
CPUT is a diverse university with different students in terms of culture, race, language and region. The majority of students who are studying at CPUT are the poor students from the rural areas of Eastern Cape, with poor background living parents back at home struggling to find money to provide education to them and a better

Those activities include burglary, robbery, noise, bullying, theft and many more, but I am focusing on burglary. Burglary has been the high reported factor for the past years in the university. Students lose their last and only belongings while fighting for a better future and to decrease the rate of uneducated youth in South Africa, living the victim disabled to well consecrate during academic classes. Some of the victims lose laptops during burglary, which that affects them on the work they have done and preventing them in working on their assignments and projects while in their comfort zone. Victimised students do report to the securities and res manager about the burglary that happened, but no further actions will be taken in terms of replacing what is stolen or catching the …show more content…
This mobile application only works on android phones. Student has to own an android phone to be able to download the SecurityApp from google play store. The app also uses data bundles or Wi-Fi connection in order to login and send a burglary report to a security system through a network. If the witness does not have bundle or not connected to the Wi-Fi network, security alert will not be sent.
Research Methodology [15 Marks]
Qualitative research will be used to gather information about how the burglary happens, who get affected, how the victimised feel, what do the students who witnessed the burglary responded to it and also gather information on how security work in protecting the residence building. The research will also gather information based on victimised and witness students on what can be done to eliminate the increasing number of burglary reported in res management.
Design science research will be used as I intend in developing an android application to enhance the communication between two clients, students and security, to share information to improve the burglary
