Case Study: Rationale For Employment Goal And Plan Development
Counseling activity: This counselor met with Daniel and his mother, Diana on 2/16/18 to discuss his employment goal and plan development. As Daniel is interested in the IT field, this counselor worked with him to research some potential jobs in the field and see what the projections are to see if this area would be an appropriate fit. After further research, it was determined that this is a growing field and with Daniel’s educational background this is an appropriate goal for him, especially based off his abilities, capabilities, priorities, interests, and rehab needs.
Once determined that his goal is appropriate, this counselor, Daniel, and his mom, worked together to develop his individualized plan for employment.

The opportunity to participate fully and actively was extended to him throughout this process and information was provided for him to exercise informed choice in all matters related to developing his IPE. This counselor and Daniel also reviewed the 7 employment goal factors to working which are outlined in his plan. After reviewing the plan and all services involved, Daniel agreed to and signed the plan. He was provided with a copy and the original was placed in his case …show more content…
He is interested in finding full time employment in the IT field. Daniel has a lot of knowledge when it comes to computers and with the right accommodations (identified above) has the ability to obtain his goal. Seeking employment in his field of choice, is a good fit for him, based of his skills and abilities, his desire to work in the field, his prior work experience, and educational background. Although Daniel struggles with socialization and communication, this counselor believes with a “behind the scenes” type job Daniel will excel in this type of environment. Daniel has chosen to work with this counselor for job development to start. At any time, he will have the opportunity to work with a job -placement specialist. Daniel will require the assistance of a job developer to ensure that the right employer is found who understands his disability and is willing to accommodate his needs. He will also benefit from working with a job coach to help him learn tasks and adjust to a new working environment. The coach will also assist with putting the accommodations into place that he will need to be successful. During the entire process, this counselor will provide vocational counseling that will focus on ensuring Daniel’s goal remains realistic for him, that he receives the accommodations he needs to be successful on a job, that he finds

    Murray’s physical capacity is restricted to sedentary work that involves lifting up to 10 pounds at a time, occasionally, and requires occasional walking and standing, for up to 2 hours a day (he cannot stand for about 3 hours without experiencing discomfort).
