Bobby exhibits noncompliant behavior in the classroom. He ignores the teacher and makes noises and talks during instruction. The teacher should use the Win-Win Discipline approach as a behavior management approach to address Booby’s issues. This behavior management approach is designed to hand discipline problems at the moment of the disruption using powerful and proven discipline strategies, and it also targets the students ‘unfulfilled needs which is often the root of discipline problems (Kagan, 2002). The Win-Win discipline strategy allows teachers and students to work together to find solutions to behavior problems. With this approach everyone benefits, hence, the label “Win-Win”. The teacher should provide physical proximity along with hand or facial signals. To address Bobby’s control- seeking behaviors the teacher will acknowledge the student’s power and providing the student with language that expresses choice. The teacher will also offer Bobby options of how or when assignments can be completed. Finally, to help keep Bobby engaged in classroom instruction the teacher will make sure all lessons are structured and students are actively involved in the lesson.
