I am a High School Varsity Cheerleader. Yes, one of those girls who prisses around in a short skirt, ponytail bobbing from side to side and a grin the couldn't possibly get any bigger. I might be recognized as a bobbsy air head who stands on the side lines, looks pretty while only responding to the commands "Ready? Ok!" Well, believe it or not I'm not one of THOSE girls. I'm just like every other athlete breaking a sweat to become the best. My senior year of high school I made the Varsity Cheerleading squad. If that wasn't enough I wanted more. I wanted to be the person every girl envied. I wanted to be the captain. If that were to happen I had to prove that I was a well rounded girl who excelled at being responsible, has dedication, teamwork,…
In my opinion I think that Cheerleading should be a competitive sport because cheerleaders work as hard as all other sport players do. For example cheerleaders show muscle, athleticism and agility when practicing and cheering at games. Cheerleaders show muscle because they lift other people they throw and stack people on top of other people to make a pyramid. They show Agility because when doing cheers they have to make sharp and quick movements with their hands and their feet. I don’t think that it’s fair that cheerleading isn’t a competitive sport because it doesn’t involve a ball. That is why I think that cheerleading is just as much as a sport than any other…
Cheerleading can be a dangerous sport if you don't follow the proper rules and it is important to know what you are doing someone gets injured. If you try to do a stunt that is difficult you need to have the proper practice and training. Cheerleading can be a safe sport only if you have done it correctly.…
When a person thinks of the word ‘sport’ their minds go to the big three: baseball, basketball, and football. Webster’s dictionary defines a sport as “an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.” Most activities are either a sport or they are not. It’s simple, but there is one that tends to confuse people, cheerleading. People cannot agree on whether cheerleading takes on the task of being a sport. A reason some people may not know might be a result of them not understanding cheer.…
I want to be a Clemson Cheerleader because I love cheering. Since I became a cheerleader in the seventh grade, I have lived for every practice, game, and competition. Cheerleading has given me some of the most amazing memories, friends and mentors and it has shaped a lot of my personal character. Having to work with others to accomplish a common goal teaches you to value other people’s strengths and pushes you to be better communicator and collaborator. Cheering is something that has become ingrained in every aspect of my life. In the off season I help coach a youth all star squad and make sure to tumble three times a week. I also grew up watching college football and going to games and I could never take my eyes off the cheerleaders. They…
This experience in fact has provided me with many different growth opportunities. One in particular is: teamwork. Many people underestimate the athleticism that truly goes into the sport of cheerleading. Three girls work together to put another human being roughly ten feet into the…
In recent history, cheerleading has been primarily female but when cheerleading first began it was primarily male(SooHoo). In the 1950s, female cheerleading became more popular, as did the short skirts and pom-poms.(SooHoo). Cheer has been used to promote positivity and support during sports games through chants and cheers. As time has passed, cheerleading has advanced, adding tumbling and stunting, participation in competitions, and lengthy performances. There are many negative stereotypes against cheerleaders and cheerleading itself. Many people and organizations do not consider cheer to be a sport regardless of the extensive amount of athleticism demostrated. There is a lot of controversy when it comes to cheerleading and how hard cheerleaders actually work. I will…
I have participated in varsity cheerleading since my freshman year of high school. Over the course of these years, I have become a leader of the team. Through these four years, our team has struggled with leadership from our seniors in addition to our coaches. My teammates naturally gravitated towards me for leadership because of my positive attitude, a quality our seniors lacked. As a junior, I became the person that everyone would come to for help because I made it my responsibility to make my teammates feel like they were in a fun and safe environment. When our practices would become hostile, I tried my best to relieve the stress of my teammates and bring positive energy. After practices, many of the cheerleaders would come to me to talk…
I recall being the youngest girl, cheering with others several years older than me, when I began Area Youth Football cheerleading way back at the age of five. I had tried other sports such as soccer and basketball, however they didn't electrify me as cheerleading did. I instantly fell in love with the sport of cheerleading. To this day, I would not even consider changing my commitment to cheerleading, for it has positively influenced my life and taught me countless lessons that will stick with me forever.…
Cheerleading is a nationally recognized activity. Some people do not see it as a sport. But people who are in the so called activity consider themselves to be a athlete. Although schools and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) do not consider cheerleaders as athletes, but make them go by the same rules and safety guidelines of all other recognized sports. Cheerleaders have some of the same concepts of gymnastics and gymnastics is considered a sport. Cheerleaders are given stereotypes and classified as dumb and easy. So I am here to show that although there are exceptions to everything.…
Failure for me is hard to deal with, especially when it has to do with others. I try admittedly to do whatever I can for my teammates and for me personally. I have been cheering since the 7th grade and it has been the most amazing experience of my life. I personally think it turned me from a shy 12-year-old not having a lot of friends, into an outgoing fun to be around 17-year-old. With the fun times I have had during cheer, comes the hard times I have had to deal with. Whether it has been coach changing or teammates leaving the hardest thing I have had to deal with has been my tumbling. When I tried out for high school cheer I did not have the tumbling to make the team, but the coach took me in any way and I eventually got the tumbling I needed,…
Tight uniforms, loud voices, pulled back ponytails with bows the size of their head, white tennis shoes, and girls being thrown into the air, is the typical definition of a cheerleader but what exactly is a cheerleader? A cheerleader is a person who is a member of a group who shout out special songs or chants to encourage the team and entertain the crowd during a game in sports such as football or basketball. Is it a sport? I hear a lot of the times that cheerleading isn’t a sport. A sport is an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another for entertainment. That doesn’t exactly make cheerleading qualify as a sport. There is a difference in what some people may make out of it. In some case people say if you compete in competitions cheerleading is a sport, but in other cases if the cheerleader is just the girl that cheers on the crowd for entertainment, this isn’t considered to be an athlete. A cheerleader that competes in competition is considered to be an athlete.…
The sport I love to do cheerleading. I cheered for 3 years in Elizabeth, New Jersey. I took a break and then when I moved to Burlington I cheered for the middle school. This is my second year cheering for the middle school. My best friend Tiyana suggested I should cheer in the 5th grade. I finally started cheerleading in the 7th grade.…
On top of cheerleading I am also in two clubs, NHS and DECA. For DECA, I will have to make a project to make it into the state level and that project is going to take time out of my day. On top of that I have NHS to be concerned about. There is only one meeting a month, but there are also committees that we have to join such as…
The group told her that they were fine and the plaintiff seemed to be upset because the group had not successfully completed the stunt. At no point did the plaintiff tell her that she had been injured, nor did she exhibit any symptoms of a concussion in her presence.…
