Observation Paper
Part I- Description of Child/Setting
A. Description of child: Eve is a six year old little girl born on April 3, 2009. She has hazel eyes and short brown, curly hair. Eve weighs approximately 45 pounds and is about 38 inches tall. She lives with her younger brother, Michael who is two years old and younger sister, Rose who is six months old, and both her parents. Eve 's mother is currently unemployed and her father is a retired air infantry from the US Army. Both Eve 's parents were born in the United States and are both Caucasian.
B. Setting and duration of the observation: I observed Eve in her backyard on Tuesday March 10, 2015 in the evening. The weather

Eve was playing with her dog, Zooey, climbing on top of her and hugging her tight saying "Zooey is the best dog ever!" Eve and Zooey were running around back and forth, taking turns chasing each other. This went on for about ten minutes until Eve got tired and laid down on the grass. She lifted up her arms and started tracing the clouds with her finger telling me what kind of clouds they looked like. "Do you see that one?! It looked like a hot dog!" Eve started to roll around on the grass while singing the "Do you want to build a snowman?" song from Disney 's Frozen. Lynsday then came out and asked "Eve are you playing nice?" She answered with a "Yes mom!" then continued with her singing. Eve then sat up quickly and asked me if I wanted to play Eve 's castle with her. She guided me over to the play-set where she quickly set down the rules of the game. "I 'm going to climb to the top of the castle and you stay here to dig hole for my lakes. I 'll call Michael so he can help too." Eve then yelled "Michael!" repeatedly until he came out of the house. Eve started to climb up the rope ladder, jumping on the platforms, while she explained to Michael what the rules of the game were. Michael and I started to dig in the sand while Eve threw her arms around yelling "Faster! Faster!" I didn 't know how to respond to Eve 's command so I just replied with an "Okay boss!" After digging for fifteen minutes, …show more content…
She is carrying a tray of chicken nuggets and a water. Rustin sees his mom and instantly smiles. Brittney says "Hi baby!" Rustin raises his hands reaching for his mom and clenching his fists. He says "Momma" while smiling at Brittney. She places him on her lap and says "Who wants chicken?" in a high pitched voice. Rustin turns around and smiles at his mom. While his mom is cutting the chicken into pieces, Rustin is dropping his hands onto the table. He smiles when he realizes that his hands are the ones making the noise and that the noise is coming from him. He tries to climb onto the surface of the table but his mom stops him. Rustin goes to get a piece of chicken with his right hand and places it in his

I observed a child throwing a fit at the mall the other day. This child did not want to leave the store and did not want to get into her stroller. She started to throw her head back and scream very loudly. Then she would throw her arms around and kick, in an attempt to not be strapped in. The mother started to yell at her daughter to stop while trying to strap her in. After a few minutes of the child kicking and screaming she was able to strap her in. But the child continued to scream, this was when the mother decided to leave the mall. My recommendation is that instead of trying to force the child into the stroller the parent could have held the child. Trying her best to calm her down, since the child was throwing around her body while the…

The three year olds gross motor skills, which are related to active play, consisted of throwing a large ball and running at a long distance to catch it, jumping up and down, climbing up the slide and jungle gym with ease and quickly. There was constant movement with the child in all the 45 minutes that I observed her and her level of activity was very high. It was hard to catch her at moment of stillness, and even then he would be fidgeting under the table or in her seat. Her fine motor skill included, using crayons and coloring a picture, and even though most of it was scribbles(which at this age they tend to do), she was able to remain inside the coloring picture outline. At many points through the day, I caught her zipping up and down her…

The observed child is given a pseudonym in order to remain anonymous. She will be addressed as Lizzy in this paper. Lizzy is a 9 years old child who is part of a typical, traditional middle-class family I visited her while she was conversing with her best friend. She has no prior knowledge of me. Some degree of deception is involved in this observation as I lied about what I will observe; I said I will observe her house, not her actions. The deception was a critical effort to keep the results accurate. I feared she will act differently if she knew I was observing her. Afterall, all deception was undone after the observation, and I asked for her asent again. I informed Lizzy’s parents prior to the observation without any deception, and they provided parental consents. Lizzy was the only person deceived during the observation, and Lizzy’s friend and cousin were unaware of my observation. They were not informed since they were not being observed. Moreover, the observation highlights two domains of development: physical and social.…

This observation took place on Saturday October 17th at Town Center Corte Madera at approximately 2:00pm. The day was bright and sunny and the Mall was full of all kinds of parents and children. I choose a male child approximately 3 years old, wearing blue top and black pants with sponge bob square pants sneakers. The mother was wearing a yoga outfit as most mothers in Marin seem to wear these days. She was in her mid-thirties. Dad was also present, he wore a short sleeved Hawaiian print shirt with Khaki shorts and flip flops, and he too seemed to be in his mid-thirties. I was sitting at the table near the elephant fountain facing the fountain with my back to the store so know…

The child I am observing (Child N), is a five-year six-month old boy who attends a public school located in the West Village area of Manhattan. He is classified as being speech impaired. As per classroom teachers, he is bright in the sense that there are some tasks he is able to complete without verbal cues such as sorting, and an inquisitive child in the sense that shows interest in new things and people. My first day he stared at me nearly the entire time I was in the class. He demonstrates delays in most areas of development. Child N receives speech therapy individually two times a week for thirty minutes in a separate location and in a group of three, once a week, for thirty minutes in a separate location. He receives occupational…

    Child Care Observation

I believe the most challenging aspect about this particular position is investigating a facility due to the allegations reported and properly documenting. When investigating a facility, one must be aware of their surroundings and properly multi-task because an investigation may involve talking to multiple individuals while receiving documents and presenting presenting facts. The main focus is to secure the child in that particular environment, by following all policies and procedures of the agency. This appeal to me because I've had a personal experience of child care negligence. When my daughter was younger she attended at child care facility that I trust and believe would properly care for my child. One day, I stopped by to check on her…

On 6/14/2015 at approximately 1833 hours, I was conducting a security walk in Tower 12-B Pod at the Lower Buckeye Jail (address listed above). After I completed the walk in B pod I came up to cell 8 and noticed (V1) Inmate Stark, Arthur MCSO Booking Number (T174712) was laying on the lower bed inside his assigned cell with a pink Inmate towel over his forehead. I then asked Inmate Stark why he didn’t come up to get his evening meal. Inmate Stark then stated to me, "I am not hungry". I then ordered Inmate Stark to remove the pink Inmate towel from his head.…

    Parent Child Observation

Finding parent B wasn’t too hard of a challenge, I was at a family cookout and noticed a mother verbally and physically abusing her child. Watching the child’s face in humiliation was heart breaking, that I wanted to comfort the boy. What stood out to me when I observed the mother forcefully slapping the kid on the butt and hands anytime the child didn’t listen to her. This is a form of unwanted parenting, “mother’s not wanting to have any children or not wanting to have more than she has” (Brooks, 2015, p115). I remember her hitting the son when he dropped his hot dog on the ground, she would shout “why are you so stupid and clumsy”. This child appeared to be at least 7-9 years old, plus he was wearing a ninja turtles’ shirt, the same age I was into ninja turtles.…
