I wanted to thank you for allow me to sit in on the staff meeting. I had a few ideas about patrolling and helping keep the city parks safe. As you said the PD does not have the staffing to dedicate units to the park, but maybe we can help reduce crime and the fear of crime with no additional PD resources. What I was thinking was a “watch group” for each park. The great thing is the hard work is already done for us and most of the city parks have groups dedicated to help protect and preserves the parks. (Friends of Garden of the Gods, Friends of Red Rock Canyon, Friends of Cheyenne Canon, Friends of Monument Valley Park, Friends of Ute Valley Park, Guardians of Palmer Park) We can reach out to these groups and talk with them about the issues and create groups within these groups. It could be coordinated through the Crime Prevention Officers and free training could be offered to the volunteers on what to look for and how to report incidents or issues they are seeing. If we could get the visitor center or the groups to raise money for high visibility vest, it could be a huge force multiplier for us.
