In the first video at John Smith Middle school, on Friday, April fifteenth at 12 pm, the classroom observed was in Mrs. Blue’s middle school class. For the Infant and Toddler Curriculum class, I was assigned the toddler classroom at Montessori Day School to complete my 24 hours of observation. The classroom had ten children with two teachers. The classroom was divided into four sections by two-shelf bookshelves. There were two tables, large carpets, and small white rugs where the students could take their work to complete. Because Montessori Day School is passionate about the Montessori method, the children do not simply wander the classroom and play with toys. They choose activities that the teachers refer to as “work” to complete. These works help develop the child’s social, emotional, intellectual, and motor skills. On Thursday, September 17, I went to Hillcrest Elementary/Visual Performing and Arts School to observe Mrs. Mary Jackson’s music class. When I got there the students were sitting in their chair and learning about the music notes AGF. I saw two Special Education Teachers in the class and they told me that they were here to help the exceptional students. These notes are short notes and high pitch notes. After the lecture, Mrs. Jackson had the student watch and learn the song “Fiddle Eye Fee” in which it had animal puppets singing. Every time the chicken puppet came on, it would sing “Fiddle Eye Fee” and the teacher would sing along and play the xylophone. I set up an appointment with the Kids Club daycare at 9:45 am on November 4th to observe for an hour of toddler classroom who were between three and four years old. The principle gave me a warm greeting and took me to the class and introduced me to the teachers and the children. Everyone there made me feel welcomed. I chose a place where I can sit, observe and write my note as well as to be away from children's sight. In the classroom there were five boys, two girls, and two teachers Ms. Nadia and Ms. Emma. The classroom itself was large and spacious. The practice of differentiating instruction helps teachers address the balance between requirements of accountability and the individual needs of students with diverse learning styles within the classroom. Differentiation allows teachers to focus on essential skills in each content area, individual differences, incorporate assessment into instruction, thereby providing students with multiple avenues to learning. Once again, I was placed in Mrs.Metcalfe who teaches second grade at Bens Branch Elementary. Mrs.Metcalfe took attendance while the students waited patiently on the carpet. After she took attendance, she addressed that she had taken some privileges away from the students because the students did not picked up their mess after having centers and would not follow instructions that the teacher gave. She explained that centers might return for the upcoming school year if they behaved properly. After she addressed the issues of the students, she instructed everyone to go back to their desks and waited till they put their thumbs which meant that they were ready for the lesson of the day.
