College Admissions Essay: A Career As A Soldier

I want to do something good for humanity. I believe that one of the best ways to help people is through service. I believe that all that I have been endowed with in this life, must be paid back through service to others through the utilization of the the training, talents, and abilities that I possess or will possess. Ever since I was little, I’ve always had a fascination with being a soldier. The idea of a soldier, tall, strong, and proud, was the example I always compared myself to in my mind’s eye. Whatever I did, I asked myself the question, “is this how a soldier would act?” Once I learned more about the military, and the Service Academies, I realized that this may be the right path for me. I want to become a doctor, and the United States
military perhaps conducts more humanitarian operations than actual combat operations. This is knowledge that doesn’t make the front page of the newspaper, this is the information that most of the American people and the rest of the world don’t hear about in the media. That is with the exception of two groups: the servicemen and women of the U.S. military, and the people whom they help. I believe that the United States Military academy, and becoming an Army officer is one of the best paths to achieving my goal. The education, training, and comradeship found at West Point is something that no other institution comes close to matching. Attending the West Point SLE was an eye-opening experience that convinced me that I belong in the United States Military Academy. Coming from a first-generation immigrant family, I believe that it is my duty even more so than others who have been in this country longer to serve this nation which has provided me with freedoms and protections unmatched anywhere else on this Earth.
