College Admissions Essay: A Career As An Interior Designer
To be an interior designer has always been a dream for me. It has been a major part of my life since I was a little girl till present. Interior design has not been a hobby for me, it has been a way of life; not a day goes by where I don’t draw a space, dissect the layout of a place, or even watch something about interior design. One of the reasons why I love interior design is that It allows the designer's creativity to flourish; with it I use my creativity to produce interesting designs and unique layouts. One of my advantages is that in my first semester of college I took architecture courses, gaining knowledge of how a building/structure is designed and laid out. Taking these architecture courses introduced me to computer programs like …show more content…
Another of my advantages includes my study of construction. My high school was a trade school which I specialized in construction, giving me a greater understanding of how space is built. By having a greater understanding of this, I am able to use a space in more ways than someone who doesn't. I am also able to craft furniture for a space due to my woodworking experience in construction and I am even able to know what type of electrical circuit I have and/or need for a specific light etc.. Knowing these things gives me an advantage to actually work hand in hand with construction workers while designing a space. I will actually know the process of how they physically build the space. Not only did I learn construction in high school but I also took many art classes inside and outside of high school. By doing so, my drawing and sketching skills have gotten increasingly better and precise. Taking art classes made my creativity become more vast and imaginative. I began taking these art classes when I was in middle school till now, showing that I always want to continue perfecting my drawing

As a culture and in families, people are taught that to pursue dreams or succeed in a career, education is a necessity. However, some people assume a certain path is meant for them but destiny has a different course for them. Janet Echelman shared several points that could be related to personal experiences to find my own creative path in life. As a result of my own adversities with finishing college at a younger age, acceptance into an art institute to study interior design was not achieved. Nonetheless, with encouragement and determination implanted, designing remained a hobby practiced. Nurturing and releasing my imagination to explore various angles, colors, and shapes that correlated or contrasted with one another broadened…

As a registered nurse, I have been tasked with providing care to patients suffering from various medical conditions, but now I am ready to provide a different type of care in the form of beauty and art. Despite finding my current profession immensely gratifying, I always knew my true passion was in interior designing and decorating; hence why I have made the ambitious decision to go back to school for a new career in interior design. I have always enjoyed working with colors, patterns, and personalizing my home with DIY projects, such as remodeling a storage room into a guest bedroom and tearing down a wall to create a larger living room. I find myself constantly glued to home improvement shows and going through home magazines to find new ways of decorating,…

Last year, I had a class where everyone had to write positive things about people on slips of paper that those people would later receive. Most of the slips I was given had words like “artistic” written on them. It’s the one thing people think of when they see me. I’m given art supplies for birthdays and Christmas, I used to be able to fill sketchbooks in just a month, and creating just now seems like something I’m supposed to be alive for, but I didn’t get serious about it until I was in middle school and didn’t want to make a career out of it until I was a freshmen in high school. Unfortunately, I’ve been going to a school that does not offer much or any art classes but on my own, I have been climbing my way to my dreams of becoming an animator, illustrator, or tattoo artist. Going to Perpich will benefit me well in this process and I’ve already taken art classes at the Art Academy, started my own webcomic, experimented with many different mediums, and have read books about improving art styles. The visual arts is essentially my passion and I will do anything to keep it that way.…

“To go forward you have to come back to where you began.” So much has changed since that warm summer night when I read the last pieces of advice Cal had to offer. Often my personal self feels like a collection of different pieces – the me from the border, the me as next of kin, the me rediscovering hope, perhaps even the me of the future. Being a doctor encompasses much more than just technical skill and amassing information. It is an outlook, a passion, a question and state of mind. My experiences have taught me that without a genuine drive to change people’s lives and the courage to stand tall in the face of uncertainty, even the best academic is just a mediocre physician. A social worker once told me, “A career in medicine is what you make…

I am the perfect candidate for the Fashion Institute of technology because I am inquisitive; I am always craving more knowledge no matter what the topic - I am a leader, I enjoy coming up with fresh, new ideas and I am an intensely passionate person. Though, unlike many other FIT applicants, I haven’t always had a “passion for fashion”. Growing up, I wanted to be an Architectural engineer. It wasn’t until someone close to me gave me my first Michael Kors handbag my 8th grade year that I began to develop the passion I have now. Handling this bag was when realized my obsession with high-end fashion was only beginning. I was amazed at the production work put into making the merchandise. Of course the beauty of fashion is interesting, but what…

College is an open door to many opportunities especially for someone like me who comes from a conservative culture in which most believe the working field is not for women. Times have changed and yet an employed woman is looked down upon. Many girls dream about having a bright future only to see it shatter once they become older and their opportunities are seized. I want to be able to beat the odds and go against the old-fashioned beliefs of my culture. To do so I need to achieve a higher education. I am planning on attending a community college to receive my two years of general education and then graduate to a university to major in physical therapy. I have excelled in high school, will continue to do so in college, and be able to graduate from college.…

These are the words that resonate with my life journey and the path ahead as I prepare myself to set foot on the path towards residency. My life's timeline has been a great mix of personal, emotional and intellectual growth. Coming from a rural town in Pakistan with limited educational opportunities, life handed me various challenges and struggles. The key reason I have come this far is my belief to build a door when the opportunity does not knock. With courage and passion, I was able to stretch the limits of what was "possible" and went beyond and it has shaped me as a person that I am today.…

When I was 14, my mother took my family to Yellowstone National Park and Wildlife Reserve in Wyoming for a family road trip before I entered High School. There, I was enthralled by some of most beautiful landscapes in America. I wanted to capture them all on my tiny iPhone camera! For a while, I was satisfied with the pictures I took on my phone, however, that was before I learned that there was so much more to photography than just pointing and shooting. There were angles, lighting, aperture, exposure, and other visual rules to be accounted for. My mother has an old DSLR, so I'd been exposed to more advanced digital cameras. It's funny, she never really took the camera off of automatic mode, so she essentially had an expensive point and shoot.…

From my freshman year when I took my college visit I grasped the knowledge and motivation to accomplish my goal of being a professional in the medical field; I was so open to being at any college as long as I earned my education. My mom pushed me to get good grades. Now I understand why. I struggled my freshman year in high school, my grades and motivation weren’t how they were when I first entered. Now as a senior, I will finish my second semester of college while completing all four years of high school, and playing basketball all four years. I am the second oldest of five siblings. Throughout my entire career as a student, I have put into my mind that I need to do the best I can, so that I can be accepted into a great college and receive scholarships. I worked hard every year so that I could earn great grades to raise my GPA. I am now ranked fourth in my class. I selected challenging and advanced courses , so that I could increase my GPA even more. Every year I took classes that were honors or AP. I chose not to focus on the easy elective options, and instead I chose to take more difficult classes that would help me for the future and that were directed towards my career choice. I took all the medical courses and became a CNA and CMAA my junior year. Usually the CNA class is taken by seniors, but I took this challenging class as a junior and I…

There are many issues facing people who work in the graphic design industry that makes their career harder, and harder to find work as well. One issue is that at all times you have to be on top of things at all times, and know what’s trending, or what the public wants from your work. Another issue of being a graphic designer is that you’re a freelancer, in other words, you’re not really an employee, but instead a person someone hires for a single job, which means that it’s not exactly steady even though you get a steady paycheck and decent benefits. You also need to be able to design anything, you need to be able to piece together what an employer will want, and show that you are sort of a jack of all trades, and will be able to appeal to any…
