throughout high school. Being a strong leader is an important skill to develop as a student and I pride myself on being a role model for others.
When my older brother left for college, I became the oldest sibling in my home. This meant that my younger siblings were looked up to me even more, which in turn implored me to be a positive role model in their life. I support my siblings by helping them to get to school on time, helping them to complete their homework, and encouraging them to participate in sports which will help them become team players and teach them the importance of staying healthy and having fun, In addition to being a leader to my siblings, I am also a link crew leader for incoming freshman for Memorial High School. We help the students understand the importance of getting good grades and how activities can impact their high school career. We also help them with the transition from middle school because it is very important that they make bonds and relationships that will help when they have questions about the school in the future. In addition to my leadership skills, I am a member of Student Voice. In Student Voice, we discuss problems around our school and we work to find solutions. In this group, being a leader is important because you are explaining from a student point of that the problems are within the hallways. Being a leader contributes to giving ideas to help to help our school become a better learning
environment.
Being involved in the community helps me develop social and communication skills. You need to understand what a person is going through; how they feel and need to be able to helpful and flexible with them. Everyone reacts differently to situations. As a part of the community I am involved with many volunteering experiences; from reading to elementary schoolers for three years, to volunteering at the Taste of Madison, to being one of the main leaders at Juneteenth two years in a row. My experiences have a great impact on my desire to help out my community and many others. I’ve also participated in blood drives to help those in need of blood transfusions.
I currently hold a job at Qdoba Mexican Grill. This lets me interact with people outside my own immediate environment. I meet and speak with different people in different moods with different attitudes. This pushes me to be very patient and open minded with everyone, because all of my customers have different values. This job teaches me to be responsible for doing my job and making sure the customer is happy and well satisfied. All of these attributes have prepared me to be the strongest member of a college community I can be.
