I have been in tennis for eight years and varsity for three years, where I have received two awards for most improved player. I was accepted into the program “Trees for Tomorrow” where I learned how to manage and use natural resources in a classroom and in field studies. I participated in a new sport, a cross country ski team, where it taught me skills and strengthened my mind set about myself. My early years of high school, I was part of the backstage crew for a play, performed at my high school. The theatrical plays were terrible, under equipped, with barely…

What does success mean to you? Success is the ability to overcome challenges and to get to your desired outcome. Success depends on you, it is dependent only on what your desired outcome is. According to Abraham Lincoln success is expressed as “always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other.” Abraham is expressing the importance of the resolution of success. I agree with Abraham there is nothing better than the resolution to succeed. To be more successful you have to make changes in your life, some of these changes are not so easy and conflict with yourself but in order to succeed there must be a change. This year I have to make some changes to myself in order to succeed.…

I never imagined that one little, tiny human could change my life. I know they say that the second you see your child, you’ll experience a love that you’ll have experienced before. Although I didn’t have a child, the birth of my little sister sure allowed me to experience this love. At the ripe age of 13, I was beyond excited for my mom to have a baby. While I already had two siblings, they were closer to me in age. I was finally going to be able to take care of a baby, and there was nothing that I was more excited about.…

Some people choose to be weak, but I was a little boy with a dream to be strong. Sometimes the things that make us strong aren’t what we choose, and other times they are. It is said that hard times make people stronger and here are three important areas of my life that gave me my dream of strength: I was abused in my adolescent years, I joined the military as a young adult making six trips to combat zones, and with combat related disabilities I went to college in pursuit of a medical degree.…

These are the words that resonate with my life journey and the path ahead as I prepare myself to set foot on the path towards residency. My life's timeline has been a great mix of personal, emotional and intellectual growth. Coming from a rural town in Pakistan with limited educational opportunities, life handed me various challenges and struggles. The key reason I have come this far is my belief to build a door when the opportunity does not knock. With courage and passion, I was able to stretch the limits of what was "possible" and went beyond and it has shaped me as a person that I am today.…

For most of my adult life, I have struggled to define success -success, in the sense, that I have never been where I wanted to be. I grew up in a small one-bedroom apartment in East Los Angeles where we struggled to pay the monthly rent of $500. My grandmother had been renting this apartment for 30 years. My mother and her four siblings were raised in this apartment. None of my grandmother’s children graduated from high school. Instead, they drove trucks for a living, joined the armed services or went to prison. This would make graduating from high school and attending college very difficult for me.…

My decision had to be made up because I did not know if I could graduate from Campus High School and I knew I did not have enough credits to become a senior at Campus. I hated going to school because I was not a fan of the teaching staff or either the students. They were not as bad because I honestly remember them always pushing me to do my best and I still think about a few of them and I am not proud of dropping out because I know I let some of those teachers down. My only problem with school was just waking up early never made me feel good, I would always feel sick, and so I never went and then I just stopped going altogether. I was just very lazy and lacked confidence.…

“Your father and I have decided you will stay locally, it will be a lot easier for us.”, it was these words that trembled and traumatized my thoughts. In a flashback, I realized I was the same parent-centered child, that was raised to obey and not question the parents’ authority. I remember my parents asking “What do you want to be when you grow up?” In response, ” I had no clue.” They constantly encouraged me to go to college throughout my high school career. If for some reason I had to stay for my AP class, they would motivate me. High school was the time in my life, where I had to apply to higher education institutions, and when my torment began.…

As a fresh, high school graduate I was more concerned about things outside of college. I forced myself to go to college, but I wasn’t too sure what I wanted to be yet, so I started off with Radiology Technician. I didn’t strive to do my best, which knew I could have. As long as I made a passing grade I was happy with that, but with medical programs being competitive, that wasn’t going to cut it.…

My most significant accomplishment was being first chair trumpet. When I first started playing trumpet in fifth grade, I was terrible at it. I started practicing more in middle school, but I still wasn’t progressing much. I then started taking lessons during sixth grade and learned that my mouth position was very wrong. My lesson teacher was able to help me fix that problem but then I got braces. When I got braces, I took a huge step back. I had to relearn how to play the trumpet. I eventually got better with practice and in eighth grade I even made one of the auditioned bands at my future high school.…
