College Admissions Essay: The Overflow Of Power
The Overflow of Power
I find that being a teenager living in a first world country in the 21st century, it is nearly impossible to not be reliant on technology. Our whole life is ran by computers from our ride to school all the way to what makes our coffee in the morning. I find that even if I don't want to, I will never not be reliant on technology. Each and every morning I wake up and turn off my alarm which means the very first thing I do in the morning is use technology, all the way until the last thing I do at night which would either be turning off my lamp from reading a book or finishing an episode on netflix, technology is the first thing I use from when I close my eyes until I open them.
If it weren’t for these small things like turning on the lights of my room or checking the time on my watch, my life would not be the same. I feel like these little helpless actions allow me to take those 5 extra minutes from doing my math question step by step, and allowing me to do something that will make me a better person or the world a better place. At the same time, technology does have its downs that I am very much guilty for. For example:
…show more content…
Which is why I am one-hundred percent satisfied with my feeling of power. I would definitely never want technology to be out of the picture, but at the same time; I would hate for technology to take over. My power vs technology ratio is perfect for me and just me, not my best friend or my mom or anyone else. I believe that it all depends on the person’s need of power and even in one-thousand years when the world is as reliant as possible on technology… there will still be those few people that are against technology and will use their feeling of power all the time. As for me… I’ll have to see the advances in the future in order to have an

Anyone living today knows the effects technology has had on society today, not to mention how it’s changed our generation entirely. Our generation can hardly remember a time when technology didn’t exist. It’s become a part of our lifestyle, and isn’t going anywhere soon. “The evolution of technology has reached a point where pretty much anything is available at the touch of a button. Shopping, learning, working and entertainment can all be accessed from the comfort of our own homes, on a train or sat in a cafe,” (The Guardian).…

I have some older friends who know nothing about technology and would not know how to use it. They do not have the internet or a cell phone and say that they do not need it. We sometimes tease them by calling them Fred Flintstone and ask how everything is in Bedrock. I think that now a day’s technology has become a necessity and not just a luxury.…

Technology has significantly changed my relationships within the market world. Technology is all around us in everything we do varying from banking, to getting coupons to our e-mails from previous stores we have shopped at, to getting our grades or even classes online. The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is take a look at my smart phone. I check the weather application to see what I should wear. I glance at my news application to see what is going on around the world. I open my traffic application to see which route I should take to work or school that day. Of course, like many other people in the world, check my Facebook application. I am already tuned in to the technological world, all before I brush my teeth.…

I had a really terrible memory when I was young, which was about a car accident. In the summer of 1995, I was 7 years old at that time,I was playing with my friends in the garden which was near my house. Suddenly, a friend of mine started fighting with a big guy. I didn’t know what happen, I was too young and so scared, the only thing I thought was to find his parents to go for help. So a girl and I decided to run to his home. The little girl was in front of me when we were crossing the road, and we didn’t realize a car was coming. The driver saw the girl first, so he turned right to avoid hitting her, but he didn’t know that there was another child coming out.…

Everyone I know, myself included, relies to heavily on technology. When my iPhone reaches a level below 25% battery it makes me nervous. I begin to question, what will I do without my phone, what if someone posts something on Facebook, or tags me in a tweet? A couple of years ago I was involved in a research project. I let my phone, computer and iPod die and didn’t charge them for 48 hours to see what I would do with my time instead of face book, twitter, and other useless time-fillers all contained within this small computer. On top of that I unplugged my television and did not touch any of my electronics for a whole day. That one day was one of the most productive I have ever had. I finished all my homework completely and thoroughly in what felt like no time at all. When I took a break from doing my work I had nothing to do except think; which I loved. I thought, I drew, I read, I talked and I had a great day. I never thought that I could survive the day without technology but I did more that…

Some people choose to be weak, but I was a little boy with a dream to be strong. Sometimes the things that make us strong aren’t what we choose, and other times they are. It is said that hard times make people stronger and here are three important areas of my life that gave me my dream of strength: I was abused in my adolescent years, I joined the military as a young adult making six trips to combat zones, and with combat related disabilities I went to college in pursuit of a medical degree.…

My decision had to be made up because I did not know if I could graduate from Campus High School and I knew I did not have enough credits to become a senior at Campus. I hated going to school because I was not a fan of the teaching staff or either the students. They were not as bad because I honestly remember them always pushing me to do my best and I still think about a few of them and I am not proud of dropping out because I know I let some of those teachers down. My only problem with school was just waking up early never made me feel good, I would always feel sick, and so I never went and then I just stopped going altogether. I was just very lazy and lacked confidence.…

Growing up I always heard from my parents and my teachers “do the best you can”. At the time I thought that I was doing the best I could do. I would hear that phrase day after day no matter what I did. I never minded hearing it, it was nice to heat actually. I had always earned A’s throughout elementary and middle school and all of my teachers in the private school I attended seemed to be pleased with the work that I produced. I always worked hard, and in return my teachers rewarded me with praise. I thought that I was an excellent student.…

Nearly 80% of Americans have access to the internet at home, school or work, and almost 50% of Americans have smart phones with internet at all times. The articles “How Computers Change the Way We Think” by Sherry Turkle, “Lazy Eyes” by Michael Agger and “Americans and Their Smartphones” by John C. Dvorak, all talk about how technology is changing the world. Easy access and constant use of the internet is changing the way people learn and think in their everyday lives.…

Our day starts with the digital alarm clock and this digital world has become a huge huge part of our daily lives. A child who is 4 enjoys playing video games on mobiles, laptops and ps3 players. An old man also needs a mobile phone because technically landlines have gone out of fashion. Therefore each person in this world is entirely dependent on the use of technology throughout the day. It has not only become a part of our world but it has solely become are world. Mobiles, television screens, laptops and computers are our best friends, we love them more than we love human beings. During earlier days, homework was not copied from Google search engine. Making plans was not as easy as it seemed. Letters were exchanged to express feelings instead of text messages. It is extremely difficult to think that how we would not survive without gadgets if he had to for one day. A cell phone helps us manage our mails, our presentations and all the birthday reminders. It is one single spot for calculations, photos, videos and games. We don't need a separate camera or calculator to do stuff. Electronic devices…
