Select three adjectives that describe you and explain.

If I were to select three adjectives to describe myself they would be common words. I would pick something like artistic, and funny, but the words need to say something deeper about me. So instead, I decided to look for a list of adjectives. I wanted to find something that could say enough about me. Blithesome and passionate seem to be a good match, but of course I get stuck on the third one. So I sit here at my desk and text my long term boyfriend of four years. “If you had to pick one word to describe me, what would it be?” I ask. I press send and wait eagerly.
As I wait, I think about what everyone always says about me. If you asked Mr. Moore, my counselor, he would say that I’m strong. He always told me, “you’ve made it this far, and that says something”. To myself I think, sure I’ve beaten all the big bumps on the path I’m walking, but there’s plenty more ahead of me. Since my boyfriend can’t think of anything other than being “loving” or “beautiful”, which isn’t going to get me into college, I decide to pick determined. I’m still walking my bumpy path right?
Determined means of unwavering mind; resolute; firm. I think that fits me. I’m very determined to make something of myself. I don’t want to end up being a single mom who can barely afford to take care of her children because she didn’t go to college. I will be the first of my immediate family to get through college. I want to make a better life for myself. A nice house, that doesn’t have ugly green carpet. The ability to paint my walls the way I desire. I am going to make it, one way or another. I am going to be the girl who I want to be.
Blithesome means lighthearted; merry; cheerful. For the most part, I am light hearted. Some might say I’m juvenile or maybe that I have a bubbly personality. My mom would use the term, free spirited. I really am happy most of the time,

The move Amistad and the story “Interesting Narrative of the life of Olaudah Equiano” have many similarities. The three similarities between the story and Amistad are the ways that the slaves were treated, the conditions of the ships, and the reactions of the slaves. I am very competitive so I am not going to stop until I am satisfied with the outcome. One can find my level of determination in everything I do. Being determined is not always about completing something first or being the best at something. It is about making myself feel accomplished with the outcome. Whether it is in sports that I am competing in or making myself get up and go to a class. Every time that I get out of bed and drive to school, I am shaping myself into a stronger individual that will be more successful in the future. I make myself go to classes because I am thinking about my future. If I bite the bullet now and take on all the hard tasks that get in my way I can have a more enjoyable life later. I am basically following in the footsteps of my sister. She is training to become a physical therapist. Becoming a physical therapist is not an easy task. If it was easy, anyone would be able to do it. I am fortunate enough to see the things that she did not do that would have been beneficial to her. I am able to better myself so that when I am in the upper level education courses, I will not have to fret as much as she does. I can prepare myself for the worst by taking on the worst now rather than later. This can either be for the upper education that I will need to partake in the future or the career that I will need to establish later in life. Success in building a healthy family and a…

I was very lucky to have gotten this attribute. What got me this characteristic was that very day when Leslie had told me she was getting surgery. The reason why Leslie was the reason I endured this characteristic was because I had the mindset to take care of Leslie yet, prioritize myself to also finish my homework. Today, I use this mindset of being determined in my everyday life. I used it for many of my extracurricular activities like the National Technical Honor Society, Link Crew, Leadership and Yearbook. Although I use them in my extracurricular activities, I also use determination to complete many school projects, essays and even to the extent, homework. In National Technical Honor Society, I utilize determination when we create projects to help build awareness for others like, donating blood for the blood drive and encouraging recycling to make the earth a better sufficient place. While in Link Crew, I manipulate the power of determination to help exemplify students to be the best they can be and to also have the best school experience as possible. In,Leadership I use determination to set an example for younger students to follow by staying positive, even under stress or frustration. As a matter of fact, I also use determination when the class is under a timed schedule with getting major events done. Above all, Yearbook is the one I intend to succeed in the most. Creating the Yearbook is like creating a story; I am so bound to making the book breathtaking compared to the previous ones. I am constantly adamant to get all my pages done on time, but also making sure they are very creative and well organized and thought out. As a result, in all of these accomplishments I have been known to be successful with the help of being…

All people no matter who they are and no matter if they realize it or not, surround themselves with people who act or think like them, this is because humans naturally want to interact with people who share the same ideas and beliefs as they do themselves. When interacting with new or different people it can cause one to have mixed feelings about the experience. The opinion about a new group can either be positive or negative but having the experience is important to be able to decide a reasonable judgment about the unknown culture.…

Determination has never been a skill I lacked at. It might just be, the fact, that we the “Cardenas” are known to be extremely stubborn and what we say typically gets done. Or maybe it is due to the multiple observations I have made throughout life. Yet, I think I must consider saying that it is neither, or, but both that have built me into who I am. I have grown up in a Mexican household where strenuous work has always been necessary to strive. My earliest memories of my parents are that of them coming home exhausted from backbreaking labor. I can recall numerous nights when I should have been asleep, but instead stayed up to listen to the “grown up talk”, this talk generally consisting of what the next job would be. I have never really sought to think about what truly impacted me to want to attend a college, something not foreseen in my family, yet as I sit and type this I realize the many things that built in me the…

I would like to say my determination was apparent from the very beginning, but it was far from the truth. The disappearance of my father a few years prior to the death of my only grandparents I had contact with, derailed me from beginning my undergraduate career successfully. I stayed up nights partying, and missed many classes. It was detrimental to my personal life, work, and academics. The partying continued for over a year and it was not until I woke up in the hospital from alcohol poisoning that I…
