College Success
Being a college student we think that you can take on the world. Then as she/he, sits and pounders the thought of being able to get the dream job that they have being dreaming of since they were three feet tall and barley able to feed themselves. Now that we are old enough that we fit in our own clothes; being able to think for ourselves and flush after using the restroom. Our ego sits in and says I don’t need to prepare for my career before I get that job. The college students that are better prepared in the work force usually have to work your way up the ladder. The first step of the ladder starts with community service. College students should do community service because it develops problem …show more content…
solving skills, provides them with new opportunities and helps them and understand the importance of issues facing their community.
Developing problem solving skills can be extraneous work depending on how complexed your situation might play out.
You can’t change the hand that was dealt to you but what you put into to it, you can except in return that’s what you will get out of it. For instance, there was a need for chaperoning for a big event at the church and they need volunteers. So, I jumped on that ride and oh boy was it a ride. The event was a lock in. which is where the high schoolers will stay overnight at the church. Me and one of the other chaperones had troubles with them entering the room when we didn’t invite them in. The sliding door was able to be unlock by a coin on the other side. Quickly, thinking on my feet there was a vice grip that I found and clamped it on the square bolt. So, that when they twisted their coin to unlock the door it was impossible to open. Because the clam would be propped against the wall. It’s a good example, of how you will have to be cunning in your problem-solving skills in order to maximize the best outcome. The confidence will come with time, especially with the experience that you get from the certain duty. You are doing great deeds for others and the community, which provides a six-sense of accomplishment. Also, give it a sense of pride and distinctiveness. the better you feel about yourself, the more likely you are to have a positive view of your life and future goals. Just because volunteer work is unpaid does not mean the skills you learn are basic. Many
volunteering opportunities provide extensive training. For example, you could become an experienced crisis counselor while volunteering for a women’s shelter or a knowledgeable art historian while donating your time as a museum docent.
Volunteering can also help you build upon skills you already have and use them to benefit the greater community. For instance, if you hold a successful sales position, you raise awareness for your favorite cause as a volunteer advocate, while further developing and improving your public speaking, communication, and marketing skills
