My experience at Elijah’s Promise was humbling and self-rewarding. It was humbling because for the two hours I was there I witnessed what it is like to have close to nothing. The people who came in looked forward to their hot meal. They had some fun and really enjoyed themselves even though they are not in the best of situations. For this reason, I did not mind doing the work I was told to do and actually enjoyed it in the process. Elijah’s Promise was also self-rewarding because I was able to really get something out of the experience. I was able to be truly thankful for my life and understand that I was doing a good thing for good people. I could tell how grateful the people at Elijah’s Promise were and that…

The Prophets by Abraham Heschel is a fascinating book which aims to understand the prophet by studying and evaluating the totality of his consciousness, in his relation not only to God, but also to man. According to Heschel the prophets purpose was to convey the very pathos of God, yet throughout each prophetic book the imprint or voice of the author is still felt (p. xxii). For these men prophecy was not just something that they did from time to time, it was a way of life and part of their very being. Who was the prophet? He was a man imbued with a deep conviction, an inner crisis.…
