The concentration of sugars in two well-known sports drinks, Powerade and Gatorade, were determined by monitoring an enzyme-catalysed reaction sequence involving the appearance of NADPH. Sucrose and glucose concentrations were calculated from the concentration of NADPH formed by the reaction of glucose-6-phosphate and NADP+. Spectrophotometric absorbance readings were taken at 340nm, this is because NADPH absorbs strongly at this wavelength, whilst NADP+ does not (1015MSC, 2010). The concentration of glucose and sucrose in Powerade was found to be 0.43g/100mL and 7.36g/100mL, whereas the concentration of glucose and sucrose in Gatorade was found to be 0.94g/100mL and 7.09g/100mL respectively.…

Gatorade is formulated to rehydrate and replenish fluid, carbohydrates and electrolytes as well as to "quench your thirst." According to Wikipedia, "Gatorade is the official sports drink of NASCAR, the NFL, MLB, NBA, WNBA, USA Basketball, NHL, Association of Volleyball Professionals, US Soccer Federation, Major League Soccer, High School Sports Teams, and the Chelsea F.C. in the UK." As individuals of society we are continuously and subconsciously affected by media’s tactics to persuade us into falling victim into their marketing schemes. Witty yet brilliant individuals cough up slogans that will inevitably affect many consumers to come. The advertisement that initially captured my attention was the Gatorade Sports Drink Commercial. To start off, the advertisement contained text and visuals that demonstrated that Gatorade is a necessity to succeed in athletics. Moreover, the commercial demonstrated with the assistance of Nba Stars Dwayne Wade and Kevin Durant, you need the nutrients that Gatorade provides in order to compete in sports and to become the ultimate athlete and champion. I believe this ad creates limitations and viewers are led to believe that they must consume Gatorade due to the…

Which water is better to drink tap water or bottle water? That question is very common now days. Water is an essential part of human life. Whatever top water or bottled water, we need to drink at least 8 glasses of water per day to make sure we are healthy and everything run correctly, but the principal disagreement is that most people prefer to drink bottled water than tap water. Most of us would agree that the argument for drinking bottled water is basically the flavor and there are those who supposed that bottled water provides a safer way to consume the water we need. There are articles, flyers, and even books out in the market that try to persuade people to either use bottled water or tap water. While many believe that tap water is more beneficial to the body, others believe that the convenience and advertising of purified bottled water is acceptable enough for themselves. As we consume water, we concern ourselves with issues such as if it is harmful to the environment, if it is harmful to our health and whether the product is convenient for us. Ultimately, the choice is personal because both sides provide pros and cons to these issues.…

Since the creation of Gatorade in 1987 sports drinks have become a staple of American athletics. Every major sports league, including the NBA, NHL, MLB, NFL and NASCAR, are sponsored by and use of Gatorade Thirst Quencher. All Sport and Powerade, two other smaller market sports drinks, have limited sponsorships of smaller sports leagues including the NCAA. The question is, how effective is Gatorade and other sports drinks in doing what it they're advertised to do? One has to wonder if the wide use of Gatorade is merely due to billions of dollars of advertising pumped in by the company or if it actually does quench "that deep down body thirst." The majority of the internet research to determine the how and if these sports drinks work will center on Gatorade because it is the only sports drink with significant information on the world wide web. It shouldn't be too much of problem comparing sports drinks due to the fact that most of the sports drinks have rather similar ingredients.…

Being properly hydrated is something that can be the barrier between life and death. I have ran track for eight plus years. Those eight plus years entailed two to three hour practices Monday through Friday and all day track meets on the weekends in the blazing sun. Being a part of this sport for so long has allowed me to work with numerous coaches who have their own methods and hydration beliefs, that they swear are the most effective. Throughout all my years, I have never explicitly been told that I was not able to have water during a workout but I did have a coach who limited our water consumption. He was concerned with athletes cramping up or vomiting because they were running with too much water in their stomachs too close to practice…
