In classical conditioning, the stimulus and response may be at random whereas instrumental conditioning the stimulus and response is planned or specific. An example of classical conditioning is when I got in a car accident, the trauma of that situation conditions me to have anxiety behind the wheel; an example of instrumental conditioning is when I got a ticket for speeding I learned to adhere to the speed limits to avoid punishment.
Consequently, there are situations where both conditioning processes are more valuable than the other when it comes to learning. Classical conditioning is better for creating an environment where the right habits become natural to a person, whereas Instrumental conditioning is better for breaking bad habits and rein enforcing the right ones.
The Bible says, “For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person” (Mark 7:21:23 ESV).
