Competition is a contest between individuals, groups, organizations etc., for prestige, recognition, awards or leadership. It arises whenever at least two parties strive for a goal which cannot be shared or which is desired individually but not in sharing and cooperation. Whereas cooperation is an approach where parties work together to achieve a shared objective. The failure is also shared between the parties. In a cooperative situation the goals are so linked that everybody 'sinks or swims' together, while in the competitive situation if one swims, the other must sink. But competition and cooperation are not mutually exclusive, which means one can be competitive while being cooperative. One needs to understand the difference between healthy and unhealthy competition. Also, it is impossible to achieve success in life or career without cooperation. To prepare for life and career, one should learn to cooperate and at the same time learn to compete in a healthy way. Healthy competition makes one to compete by progressing himself/herelf and not by deterring the progress of others. Take for example the case of successful companies such as Microsoft and Google; both these companies are tough competitors. At the same time, these companies cooperate with each other in sharing the space over the world wide web; they cooperate in maintaining discipline by not trying to defame the other. Therefore, best preparation in life and career is learning to be both cooperative and competitive, without being malicious.
