By arming teachers or the staff that helps to support schools will only increase the level of liability in schools. Kenneth S. Trump, President of National School Safety and Security Services said "School districts considering arming teachers and school staff with guns would take on significant responsibility and potential liabilities that I firmly believe are beyond the expertise, knowledge-base, experience, and professional capabilities of most school boards and administrators," it is short-sighted for those supporting the idea to believe that educators who enter a profession to teach and serve a supportive, nurturing role with children could abruptly kick into the mindset to kill someone in a second's notice. Police and military personal train their entire career for these kind of situations. They are trained and placed into situations that require them to be in the mindset that they may have to take a life. This is the opposite of the caring role of a teacher.…
Teachers should not be allowed to have guns, because what if the teacher forgets to lock the gun securely and what if one of the teachers take their anger out and shoot his or her student. First of all teachers shouldn’t have guns at school period. What if a teacher approaches classes with a hoodie over their head and no one can notify him or her and the teacher shoots them. So teachers shouldn’t have guns at school because some students may try to harm a teacher in a way causing him or…
The issue regarding arming teachers in schools has been a really hot topic lately with the numerous shootings in schools and on campuses. Many schools are asking themselves if they should go through with training teachers and staff and some schools have started doing so. Even though most schools have not allowed teachers to carry a concealed firearm, some teachers like Kelly Blake, a teacher of agriculture at Fleming School in Colorado, reports that she “wants her students to be protected at all times.” Other teachers along with Blake have looked at the arming teachers situation like this as well because they feel like they have the right to bare arms and protect themselves. Along with giving…
As commonly known, protection means a thing, person, or group that protects. In this case, protection is a firearm. Across the United States, conceal and carry is a law that allows a trained licensed owner to possess a weapon for protection in times of desperation. In this generation, school employees should be allowed to conceal and carry, because the potential dangers that schools face could be stopped in a moment’s notice to protect all from harm. An attempt to stop a mass attack is more helpful than ignoring the fact lives are at risk.…
On December 14, 2012 there was a mass shooting at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut where 20 students and six educators were killed. The shooter was said to be armed with a “military-style rifle and two handguns”("Connecticut school shooting:," 2012) . This shooting along with many more in the past have brought about the topic of gun control. The Newtown shooting of course instilled fear in parents, for 20 innocent children were killed, and they will fight for stricter gun control laws.…
Guns have been used for decades for protection. However, is allowing a teacher to carry a gun in school premises truly protecting and properly educating our children? In the United States of America, many school are considering allowing their teachers to carry guns in schools. It is true that the protection on school grounds is unquestionably essential, but teachers should not be allowed to carry guns in schools. This could ultimately lead to a more immoral, dangerous and decrepit environment for children to grow up in.…
Teachers in 18 states are now carrying guns in school! After a recent study in the news that left many people questioning about, whether teachers should carry guns at school or not. My opinion is that they should not bring guns to school because it could accidentally go off. If this occurred it could affect a child's learning long term and their home life. This could also attract teachers for the wrong reason.…
Picture a class of twenty elementary students hidden under desks around the classroom, and the teacher is begging the children to stop sobbing. Down the hall the sound of gunshots ring out the sounds of people screaming and begging for help can be heard. The shooter is moving closer and closer to the area and all the innocent soon to be victims are defenseless. There is nothing in that classroom that is going to stop what is about to happen. Now imagine a teacher with a handgun that could at least scare off the shooter, or deter them from advancing into the room. Many people frown upon teachers being able to carry a handgun on school grounds, but if they only knew that the thing they frown upon could possibly be saving their kids life. It makes perfect sense that teachers should be able to carry a handgun if and only if they go through the proper training and tests.…
Scared whimpers, teary eyes, and fearing for your life. This is what you would experience if a school shooting were to take place at your school. According to EverytownResearch.org there have been 196 school shootings in America since 2013. Last year there were 45 school shootings. The main reasons why our teachers need to be allowed to carry a firearm is for safety during emergencies, it’s cheaper than hiring a security guard, and school shootings can happen anywhere at anytime.…
A gun does not prevent a person from causing a horrible tragedy. Guns can easily be used inappropriately and possibly even land in the hands of the wrong person. Teachers do not have similar proper training and experience like police officers do. They will not know how to react on the spot if a future shooting occurs. Many can agree that guns are used for protection, but that might not be the case when it comes to school…
One thing that has been happening in schools is open fire, killing and wounding others weather that is the teachers or students. Tragedies like these are some of our worst fears no one would ever want to be stuck in the middle of a school shooting. So let's stop this from happening with giving teacher the rights to carry concealed weapons. The reasons we are going to let this is happen is because teachers will be prepared for an incident to happen, some people live to far away and it would take a long time before the police get there, students are going to feel more safe knowing that their teachers are armed.…
Guns on campus could possibly lead to an escalation of violence, an eye for an eye concept. The accepted way of handling a shooter is to calmly call the authorities. “The Gun Control Debate” P.G. 34” States that in 1993, 39,595 Americans were killed by guns, 71% (27,726) were handguns and 1% was of police force. The USs’ homicide rate is 70 times higher and 35 times higher suicide rate than that of the UK, which they have more of a restrictive gun legislation (per the Huffington Post.) Stats prove that small handheld firearms are most used in crimes. By 1999, gun crimes have dropped 68% when heightened police force strengthened. In the same year, the law for obtained a gun cracked down. When guns are brought in public places i.e. schools, grocery stores, or, law enforcement should handle public infringements. Law enforcement officials are trained and disciplined for heinous acts that are brought to the community. Otherwise, students shouldn’t be handling such consequential acts when terror…
On Friday, December 14 there was a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary. A man shot an entrance into the school, through the front office and then continued toward the classrooms. He walked into a Kindergarten classroom of 14 innocent 4 and 5 students and a substitute teacher, in which he shot all of them. He continued toward a first grade classroom in which he shot the teacher and six of the students. This is all could have been stopped if a citizen with a Concealed Carry Permit, CCP, was near during the incident. A school isn't allowed to have guns on campus and that makes it all the bit more easy for a shooter to walk in and not be stopped. Concealed weapons should be legal in all states because it is a right of the US citizen, can stop…
“Do you believe in God?” Imagine being asked this question, and your response was what determined whether or not you would be shot to death. This is what happened at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado on April 20th, 1999 (“Columbine High School Shootings”). This terrible tragedy affected many people, including the entire nation. After this happened, many schools took their security precautions into consideration. The school district I have grown up in, Rochester Community Schools, did as well. Rochester Community Schools, along with other schools across the country, began to practice lockdown drills. These drills consist of the teacher locking the door, turning off the lights, barricading the door and hiding…
More than one hundred fifty Americans are shot daily. Eighty-three Americans are killed each day. One child is killed every hour. At least eight children or teens are killed per day. In the United States, children under fifteen years old commit suicide with guns due to bullying, about eleven times more than other countries combined. More than a third of the states already allow teachers and other adults to carry guns to school. In most cases, all you need is the equivalent of a note from the principal — you usually don't even need law enforcement…
