Cornell Personal Statement

Since I was a young girl, I have always been interested in STEAM activities from teaching myself simple math on my easel board, to singing along to the radio in the car, to constantly asking my parents to make a baking-soda-and-vinegar volcano. Once I started going to school, I would pretend to be a doctor and use a website called Ed Heads and perform virtual surgeries. Being the 6-year-old I was, I had no idea what the names of the bones in the human body were called, but the process of being able to diagnose patients and actually perform their surgeries was so amazing to me. I was fascinated by the books and puzzles my parents gifted me that taught me about the human body and how it works. Being I am originally from New York, it would be a great experience to go back to my roots. The school has an outstanding reputation in both the past and present. Cornell has always been involved with research and has been firm in their belief of the importance of diversity. These are both very important aspects of the school to me. The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences houses an excellent Biological Program. I want to pursue research opportunities to further my knowledge in the field I choose to study. Whether I want to research cancer, or study overseas in a medical program, Cornell has the resources available to students. Since Cornell was founded, their value of “education for all” has been a known characteristic of the school. Diversity is important to me as I am a woman of mixed cultures. It is a necessity that the school I choose be diverse in both ethnicities and ideas. I know that I will get the best education and become the most successful when I surround myself with people of various
