Could you leave with less
"Could You Live with Less"

The main idea of the essay "Could You Live with Less" states the opinion of the author about technology. According to this author, "technology comes at a serious cost to the planet and most of its people". It is hard to argue with this author about how we can restrict our needs by using less technology. However Mills believes that technology has more negative then positive influences in our lives. Mills is proud to live simply, restricting herself to technology. This author uses technology just for basic need; she has a telephone and car because she needs connection with people. Her decision to restrict technology usage is profitable for herself since she doesn't need to pay bills for heat or television. As she saves money, she can afford to own a huge property with a beautiful view. Mills is a writer with an unsteady income, so she probably would have trouble paying urban expenses. She enjoys nature and her big house and I believe it is a part of her inspiration for work as a freelance writer. I think depend of the person, we cannot generalize. A lot of peoples really depend of the technology to work and study. A good example to support this idea is my mother, she has a website in Brazil, in our small city called Granja Vianna, everyone who wants to announce do it on her website. So, she depends of the technology and she stays most of the time connected. Other good example is me; I am always connected throw computer or phone on Google when I am studying to improve my works. Without this technology I would have more difficult to learn, which is an essential thing.
On another hand the society use the technology all the time, when it is not essential. I think this point of her opinion is really important, a lot of people use technology exaggeratedly. I am living on this environment and I know peoples use this on the wrong way, as they are in class or even

This quote relates to it, as it says, “In the past people used technology as a tool for making survival an easier endeavor. Nowadays we are witnessing a shift in the role technology is playing in our society and may continue to play for generations to come. In the modern-day world technology is no longer a tool for survival but it turned to a means of communication and entertainment. Mass communication technology has made it easier than ever to connect with people. At the same time this raises the concern of whether technology has a good or bad influence on our society, is the use of technology destroying face-to-face interaction and communication between people?”. Some people might say that technology is a definite positive development with only positive changes. However, although the technological advance have been and is extremely helpful to everyone around the world, people need to think about how people can be too consumed in the technology that they can isolate themselves from the outside world even. Having fun with technology is normal, but we must not forget how to really communicate without the use of texting or email. Communicating face-to-face should be a key skill humans should never lose. The saying, “having too much of a good thing, can be bad,”…

I have some older friends who know nothing about technology and would not know how to use it. They do not have the internet or a cell phone and say that they do not need it. We sometimes tease them by calling them Fred Flintstone and ask how everything is in Bedrock. I think that now a day’s technology has become a necessity and not just a luxury.…

Technology has worsened our world by being a springboard for many people today in the corporate world all the way to the schools. It has made us all become dependent and use computers and the internet for almost everything. Technology is contrary to nature because of the steel that is being mined from the earth and the metals that are dug from the ground. Technology should not be taken completely but limited to the ones who abuse it. People who are in the corporate world should be the ones with legal access to the technology due to their nature of work. Our world has become dependent on technology to an unnatural level; therefore we should limit access to technology and use what we have.…

I personally don’t always depend on technology. If I don’t know a meaning of a word or if I have a question that I can’t answer I would look up information in dictionary and books first. And if I still can’t find it then I will use the internet. Internet is also a very big factor in everyday activities today. According to a youtube video,”shift happens 2016”, 75 billion devices will be connected to the Internet by 2020. This number is 10 times our human population!
