Critical Thinking Examples
After taking the self-quiz and receiving a score of two I learned that I am probably a low self-monitor. Out of the nine statements the two statements that I put a check mark next to were the statements which stated that in different situations and with different people, I often act like a very different person and that I’m not always the person I appear to be. After reflecting on my score and the concept of self-monitoring I’d say that for the most part I agree with my results. It is said that low self-monitors prefer encounters in which they can act like themselves by expressing their values and beliefs, rather than abiding by norms and I can very much relate to this. Personally, I would rather be in situation in which I can be myself rather than to be in a situation in which I feel I am not being my true authentic self to only satisfy societal norms. Not only that but I feel as though I do not …show more content…
Along with the subject of high self-monitors I am not one who prefers situations in which clear expectations exist regarding how I am supposed to communicate as I am not fond of outside sources such as society defining how I should communicate in said situations. For these reasons are why I agree with my results that I I am probably a low self-monitor. However, there are a few aspects which I question a little regarding being a low self-monitor. For example, high self-monitors are said to have the ability to alter their behavior to fit any type of social situation and I feel that in some aspects I relate to this. For example, if anybody is hurt, sad, or upset I will switch to an understanding mode and do my best to give them my undivided attention, tune into their feelings, and help them resolve their problem. However, I will not alter my behavior in order to make sure that it is in accordance in regards to any expectation. And for this reason, is why I question whether I may not be 100% a low self-monitor as it appears I have a characteristic of being a high

People see themselves differently from how they see others. They are immersed in their own sensations, emotions, and cognitions at the same time that their experience of others is dominate by what can be observed externally. This basic asymmetry has broad consequences. It leads people to judge themselves and their own behavior differently from how they judge others and the others’ behavior. Often, those differences produce disagreement and conflict. Understanding the psychological basis of those differences may help mitigate some of their negative effects.…

I do not think that colleges have moral obligations to help students become ethical individuals because for one, there are a lot of people who attend college from different backgrounds, and with that comes different upbringings. I believe that colleges don't teach ethical morals because it would contradict what was taught to the student by their family, friends, and other social and religious influences. I also believe that colleges don't teach ethical morals because there are a lot of careers that require for you to have no type of emotional attachment in your field of work. For example, you're a licensed doctor, and for the first time, a small child dies…

The textbook in chapter one page 4 defines critical thinking as: a collection of skills we use every day that are necessary for our full intellectual and personal development it basically means to be able to have good judgment , make good decisions, and how to think rather than what to think. Another set of terms that are found in the textbook is Affirmative Action which is a political, and social controversy about race and equality when hiring potential employees or admitting students into a college university usually this involves minorities who may or may not have the necessary credentials or are unable to meet certain criteria for acceptance it is based merely on a person’s race, or even sexual gender or both. Sometimes affirmative action can seem unfair to Caucasians who may qualify can feel a sense of discrimination themselves it can create a hostile environment if not dealt with properly Nancy Cantor a woman who is the Chancellor at The University of Syracuse is in favor of affirmative action and hopes that the process will improve in the future and create more harmony and understanding and that all people will be treated with respect and dignity. Ward Connerly an African-American male and college professor is not in favor of affirmative action because he thinks that it is unfair to white Americans to not to get the opportunities that they have worked hard for in their careers and in educational pursuits I find it difficult to choose one side or the other however for the sake of this assignment I reluctantly agree with Ward Connerly personal drive, responsibility, and character should be the motivation for admission and acceptance not skin color, sexual gender, or nationality. Both sides use excellent critical thinking skills on this subject however both of these individuals are minorities themselves and may have had some negative experiences in their past in career and education which…

The concepts of critical thinking and perception are both gaining increasing importance in the world today. Critical thinking allows one to understand difficult concepts in a manner that is clearer and more defined. One can more readily understand those concepts if they employ critical thinking. In all portions of everyday life, a person is expected to make independent judgments. Those judgments are based on experience and knowledge. Without the ability to think critically, every situation that a person comes across would have to be considered in isolation from all other situations. When a person encounters a problem that is a new one, he or she may be able to use critical thinking to solve those problems. One manner in which a person can develop critical thinking skills is through using them in all situations. By doing this, a person can discern when to use certain skills. One way of using critical thinking is to review material and analyze that material. There are many times when critical thinking is an important concept. It is important in the classroom. It is important in the boardroom. It is important for not only the student, but also the CEO. The mother or the teacher can apply critical thinking. Doctors employ critical thinking, as do nurses. Everyone employs critical thinking at one time or another whether or not this is even realized. This critical thinking needs to be channeled as well as focused. While critical thinking is important in all occupations, it must begin in childhood. Teachers must help their students to develop critical thinking modalities. Critical thinking helps considerably in problem solving. Without critical thinking, one must rely on old and outdated information. All businesses, from the simplest to the most technologically advanced, need critical thinkers. Critical thinking also helps in decision-making. Both problem solving and decision-making abilities are vital to a prosperous business. Persons who are…
