Brenton-Cooper Medical Centre (BCMC) has outsourced its MRI operations to Quinte MRI, a seasoned and highly recognized MRI service provider. Unfortunately, after six weeks of operations Quinte MRI’s leased MRI machine is not meeting its expected outputs as projected and is causing concern to both Quinte MRI and BCMC which has begun to lose revenue via referrals away from its clinic. Further, BCMC’s reputation is now at risk which could result in additional loses to the centre. The root cause of the problem appears to lie with the scheduling of the scanning operations.…

The reason I wish to enroll in the diagnostic medical sonography program would be from the first memory I have of being able to see and ultrasound of a baby. I remember being so fascinated with the entire experience, and wanting to know more. I thought it was so amazing that a machine could produce sound waves, and then shows you images of what you are scanning.…
Medical Sonography has become increasingly competitive, and while most programs are offered at open enrollment two year institutions, the programs themselves have specific admissions requirements that must be met. According to Southwestern Community College’s 2013-2014 academic catalog, the first steps in the admissions process to the Medical Sonography program are as follows:…

Sonography is the use of sound waves to generate an image for the diagnosis of medical conditions. Sonography is rapidly growing due to the harmful effects of x-rays and such. The most common use of sonography is associated with pregnancy, but can be used for many other things throughout the body. There are many different types of diagnostic medical sonographers, including but not limited to, obsteric sonography, abdominal sonography, neurosonography, or breast sonography.…
In the article, Role of B-Color and Resolution Sonography Presets for the Diagnosis of Lower Extremity Deep Vein Thrombosis, a study was conducted by ARDMS- certified sonographers who used an L9-3 linear probe on 284 patients (older than 18 years old) to test three modalities of sonographic imaging to determine if they would help spot an acute DVT during a lower extremity venous duplex. The three modalities used for this test was 2D imaging, resolution preset and B-color preset. Other variables/factors included in this study were age, sex, ethnicity, BMI, diabetes and hypertension. As a result, there were no major differences between the three modalities or the other factors when trying to predict a DVT in a patient. But, it was seen that if…
Throughout high school, I’ve immersed myself in many extracurricular activities and courses that I love that helped shape who I am. I mainly participated in intensive academic courses involving advanced or AP credits as well as many different volunteering opportunities which resulted in a tight schedule. In the beginning of senior year, it was difficult for me to juggle because I also started my first job. With the help of my sister, who recently graduated Physical Therapy school, I was able to create a schedule that helped relieve my stress without having to give up any of my activities I genuinely enjoyed. My sister helped me create a time allotment for my schoolwork, volunteering, and college applications. She and I are very similar in the sense that we are both determined when we set our sights on what we want. She knew exactly what she wanted to be at the start of high school and worked hard to accomplish her goal. She inspired me to also partake in a medical science as my career due to my love for science and helping others. At first, it was challenging deciding what career path I wanted to follow because I don’t like blood or needles, which eliminated many of my options. I finally decided that I want to pursue a career as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, which is a person who implements sound waves to produce images such as ultrasounds.…
This was one of the first types of diagnostic imaging. It uses radiation called Electromagnetic Waves. These images appear in black and white. The calcium found in the bones absorb the radiation, which makes our bones glow white on the x-rays. The person who is getting the x-ray wears an apron that covers certain parts to protect the patient from the radiation. The person doing the x-ray also puts on an apron to protect them as well. X-Rays can also be dangerous because of the amount of radiation that is being exposed to the patient. The x-ray machine is finally placed on the place on the spot where it is needed and is turned on for a brief moment to capture the picture. You are required to hold your breath just for a small amount of time to not mess up the scan.…
The Radiology department was full of machines and computers, each having a different purpose. The computers helped the workers identify and gain information about the patients who need assistance. The job of a Radiologist is to use diagnostic tests to provide images of a body part and use it to diagnose the source of a problem or disease. Mrs. Gonzalez explained that each Radiologist can specialize in one or more diagnostic test such as computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and x-ray. She stated that the skills needed to be successful in this field are good communication, full attention on procedures, and physical strength.…
A full-body scanner is a device that creates an image of a person's nude body through their clothing to look for hidden objects without physically removing their clothes or making physical contact. They are increasingly being deployed at airports and train stations in many countries.…
Knowledge of the alternative imaging investigations available to patients has aided me when discussing complex cases with Radiologists. As a trainee Sonographer at Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospital I regularly performed scans on ward patients and gained some experience in performing small parts, paediatric hips and DVT scans.…
