Kathy Nakagawa and Angela E. Arzubiaga are the professor in the School of Social Transformation at Arizona State University. Nakagawa is teaching Asian Pacific American Studies. Angela E. Arzubiaga is teaching Justice and Social Inquiry. This article, named “The Use Of Social Media In Teaching Race”, is about Nakagawa’s and Arzubiaga’s study. In this study, they found out that how racism and racial literacy were promoted on the social media by the teenagers or college students. They used a survey report by Pew Research Center to show that over 70% of people would share posts or video on the social media. Some of those may include racism things. Also, they used Alexandra Wallace, who was a student of UCLA and posted a video about blaming Asian…

Different social, professional and cultural contexts may affect relationships and the way people communicate due to of a lack of understanding or knowledge of one another’s background and culture. This could be through their race, religion, ethnicity or where they come from. Each one of these can have similar or very different ways to communicate. For example…
Communication is very important in the business world and is required when expanding business to other countries. To have a complete understanding of a different culture, there has to be respect of customs, manners, and ethnicities. It is important to understand being able to communicate both verbally and non-verbally is the key to success. Because each of the groups may speak a different language, it needs to be priority number one to make sure everyone is on the same page and there is no confusion. Some cultures can feel uncomfortable and insult others, when there is a lack of cultural understanding.…
One of the major problems that police deal with is bias-based policing. Bias-based policing is best described as practices that police intentionally use based on ethnicity, gender, religion, age, and sexual orientation. It also includes racial profiling (p.31). In my opinion, this problem will always be around, because there will always be at least one bad police officer. In order for us to minimize this problem, police officers should interact with the people in the community more. If the police made relationships with people of all races, it would make it easier for the community to trust law…
Law enforcement is now trying to figure out methods that they can use to improve their relationship with multicultural communities. Shusta and Levine (2010) offered some methods that can improve law enforcement in multicultural communities: (1) • Make positive contact with community group members from diverse backgrounds, don’t let them see you only when something negative has happened, and allow the public to see you as much as possible in a nonenforcement role, (2) Take responsibility for patiently educating citizens and the public about the role of the officer and about standard operating procedures in law enforcement and remember that citizens often do not understand “police culture,” (3) Don’t be afraid to be a change agent in your organization when it comes to improving cross-cultural and interracial relations within your department and between police and community, it may not be a popular thing to do, but it is the right thing to do, (4) Don’t appear uncomfortable with or avoid discussing racial and ethnic issues with other officers and citizens, and (5) Make a conscious effort in your mind, en route to every situation, to treat all people objectively and fairly.…
Poor communication between employees can present to be a problem for a workplace with a diverse a group of employees. Rather its races or cultures, everyone must have some type of background on everyone whose background or culture isn’t from the host country. Neil Kokemuller of Demand Media stated in his article “It is imperative that companies train employees on cultural awareness and tolerance of differences to encourage them to openly discuss their different viewpoints on things as opposed to avoiding interaction or getting into conflict.”…
Down though the years there has always been tension and an on and off relationship between the community they serve and law enforcement agencies. And as with any relationship between two people there are misunderstanding, break-up and disagreements and the same is with the relationship between the community and its law enforcement agencies but just with any relationship at day’s end both the community and law enforcement have and share common concerns such as justice and deterrence. With many of communities in America being incursion of immigrants within the last few decades; with this incursion of immigrants many communities are being bombard with so many new language and cultures diversity. Because of this wide range of ethnicity now living within many the walls of our communities and society on a whole now have different opinions and views of law enforcement. Now due to the various ethnicities flooding our communities the author will investigate how a few of these ethnicity groups like: African Americans, Asians and the Hispanics neighborhoods views racial profiling, discrimination and past experience with law enforcement agencies. Taking a look at the traumatized relationship and association between the two, as well as the interaction and reaction from the law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve.…

Cultural diversity is having a group made up of people from various ethnicities, backgrounds, religions, etc. Having an appreciation of diversity is extremely important and essential for effective communication. For example, if you are a person that makes a lot of gestures to express yourself but you are attempting to communicate with someone who comes from a culture that does not utilize gestures; you would want to take this into consideration so that you do not come across as rude or offensive to the person that you are communicating with. Culture can be defined as “system of shared ideas and meanings, explicit and implicit, which a people use to interpret the world and which serve to pattern their behavior”. That being said my cultural background is very diverse. I am a young, African-American male. An immediate assumption would be that I am liberal in both actions and ideas; however, that is false. I actually tend to have very conservative view points since I am also moderately religious. My values and my upbringing affect almost every aspect of my everyday life including the way that I communicate with other. The values that have been instilled in me are what tell me to be respectful to others and in return demand respect for myself. For example, I was in my very early twenties when I was a manager at the restaurant that I worked at. Most of the people that I managed were older than I was; however, they understood that I could be very personable and relate to them on a social level but I also could handle business. I was also the only African-American manager on the staff but, I made should that I was always measure by my work ethic and management ability and not the color of my skin.…
We also need to consider the differences when communicating with anyone from a different culture or social background. This is because some words or phrases that may be acceptable to one community may not be acceptable to another. We need to always be aware who is around us to prevent us from causing offence. We need to be aware that the way we communicate may not be acceptable to everyone for example if someone was communicating using offensive language and the other person replied with the same language then this would not cause offence, but if they said this to someone who does not use offensive language then this may upset…
Culture is an integral part of the human experience and it highlights the fascinating differences in both individuals and groups of people. One can only imagine the kind of peaceful existence we would know if we were all aware and respectful of each other's cultural values, but like many things in life, it's easier said than done. The values and norms of one cultural group may be admirable in the sight of another, while simultaneously offend the members of the next subculture. Clear communication is a great way to experience and learn about another culture without causing excess conflict.…
Due to the diversity it is becoming more difficult for law enforcement to know how to handle or have a conversation with citizens of another culture. When dealing with immigrants law enforcement officers will experience difficulties with communicating with them. Multicultural is related to several cultures in society, and in many cultures in some societies educational theory encourages interest instead of mainstream culture. It is very important that law enforcement understand cultural diversity. It is questionable if Sir Robert Peel, developer of the nine principles which is said to organize police departments whether or not would work in present day police activities.…
Intercultural communication is quite important because it helps other people deal with others cultural background without judging it in the first place. Although sometimes, dealing with other people is challenging and difficult. For instance, not having enough conversations and poor relationship can lead to lack of intercultural communication. For example, Hadiya Roderique (2017), mentioned that her kindergarten teacher thought that she has an intellectual disability because she was just sitting on the corner, reading a book, pretending that she's with other children, and not playing with the other kids around. Communication is very important in people's lives. It is one of many other ways to be able to talk or to get along with other person. In addition, lack of interracial can lead to lack of intercultural communication. For example, when Hadiya was on the subway, reading a newspaper with her father, a lady across her asked what's all about in the newspaper. Hadiya replied that she's able to read it. Out of nowhere, the lady's mood shifted and get mad. Hadiya asked her father what's wrong, the father replied, "It's because you're black. They hate it when you're very bright." (Roderique, 2017, para.35). Moreover, Hadiya also learned how to box herself to make other people comfortable. Based on the examples mentioned above, not having enough conversations and poor relationship, and lack of interracial are signs of lack of intercultural communication. On the first example, Hadiya's kindergarten teacher thought that there is something wrong with her, and it is all about because of having no conversation and poor relationship to each other. Move up to the second example, the lady doesn't want Hadiya to become better, possibly because in Hadiya's color and the lady doesn't want to outshine them, which is the white people. In this case, the author got the emotion of his/her readers. It is hard…
