“Who is Going to Watch My Children?” Being a single parent has its ups and downs and can be challenging and hard especially if the parent doesn’t have much support or help. Balancing school, work and children can be a hassle and take up all of a parent’s time leaving them with no time for themself. Who is going to watch my children while I’m at work or school? I need a babysitter. I can’t afford daycare. I don’t have reliable transportation. These are a few of the questions and statements that run through a lot of parent’s minds. Looking around Omaha, there are a lot of In Home Daycares on almost every corner or street. When parents can’t afford the high daycare prices they target In Home Daycares that meet the following criteria: the In Home Daycare is run by a neighbor, relative or friend in whom they know trust and they have a clean background record, the price is affordable or the daycare offers a payment plan, it is located in a decent neighborhood and environment, and an educational curriculum is taught within the different age groups. Traveling west on Ames, make a right on North 46th Street and then make another right onto North 45th Avenue you will soon approach the white and tannish colored In Home Daycare that caught my eye. There are yard decorations and the house is very neat and clean on the outside. There is a play set in the backyard in which the kids can go outside and play on. D’s Learning Center is located at 4607 North 45th Avenue, Omaha, Nebraska 68104. The hours of operation are Mondays through Fridays 6am until midnight and Saturdays 6am until noon. Less than a mile away from D’s Learning Center is the Brighter New Beginnings Preschool and Childcare Center, Inc. Parents can feel confident as far as safety because there are safety and fire plans at both locations, which is a requirement with the State and Fire Marshall. This In Home Daycare and the Center are

When it comes down to choosing the best childcare option for your child, the first factor that most parents look at is: what that particular child needs. Now, there is nothing wrong with that, but there are a number of factors that needs to be considered prior to making that final choice. The decision of whether to send your child to a commercial daycare center or an in-home family childcare should depend on more than just the need of the child. Parents need to also consider environment, cost, certification, daily schedules, and provider to child ratios.…

Findings from this exploratory study suggests that the combination of Illinois' managed care funding strategies, decreased funding for private child welfare agencies, and placement and permanency policies create pressure on private agency staff to make service decisions prioritizing the agency's business goal of financial health in important life decisions for the child.…

For this first week of class we have to read the first issue in the book Taking Sides. This issue stated the question “Is Institutional Child Care Beneficial to Children?” The big argument is if parents should put their child into institutional care (day care) or stay at home and not make a steady income while having a child. Imagine your family being broken up and scattered to a random location with a random group of people that you now must live and grow with. This decision is completely out of your control and very well may be the most important one of your life. This is what is known as the foster care system. This is detrimental to American society, because “according to national statistic 40 to 50 percent of those children will never complete high school. Sixty-six percent of them will be homeless, go to jail or die within one year of leaving the foster care system at 18.” “80 percent of the prison population once was in foster care, and that girls in foster care are 600 percent more likely than the general population to become pregnant before the age of 21.”BRITTANY NUNN (2012), author of Statistics Suggest Bleak Futures for Children Who Grow up in the Foster Care system. These statistics depict that reoccurring cycle then develops trouble adults from innocent children and spits them out into the world as unproductive members of society. Not every child that is instituted into the system is going to be another failed attempt at giving a child a good life, in fact there are probably countless success stories that the foster care system has had, however the numbers do not adhere in a fair manner. Every kid should have the right and opportunity to live the life they want to. Most kids do not develop attached feelings to their families due to the non-biological relations. There are also some cases where the child may need more attention because of the harsh realities they have had to endure early on, yet in most cases they do not receive that and are starved of that , and look for other outlets, most of which are negative.…

Charlie Hinton is a hardworking father whose wife Kim has just gone back to work as a lawyer. They enroll their child, Ben, in Chapman Academy, a very academic pre-school headed by Miss Harridan. Soon after, Charlie is laid off. In need of money, he opens up a day care center, Daddy Day Care, with the help of his best friend Phil Ryerson. At first, the local moms are suspicious of menwanting to work with children (mainly because they think they are homosexual or child molesters). But as Daddy Day Care is cheaper and more child-centered than the academy, the latter begins to lose popularity. Miss Harridan attempts to shut down Daddy Day Care by notifying child services that Charlie and Phil are not following the regulations.…

When contacting daycares around my area I quickly realized that their rules are egoistic and do not care for the needs of others. In order for me to enroll my toddler he must attend full-time or I must pay full-time, regardless of his assistance. I also considered the option of babysitters around my area, according to their response, the hours I asked for where too little and if I still needed them I had to pay for their transportation expenses. I understand that there are also home-based daycares, which are not reliable as they usually do not possess the necessary permits and licenses for child care. However, their prices were $25 per day, almost the same as professional…
