Differentiating Reasoning

The two articles I chose from Week 2 were Article One: Charter Schools Are Superior to Public Schools and Article Four: Social Networking Sites Cannot Be Blamed for Bullying. For this week in article one I believe that the author used inductive reasoning. Inductive Reasoning can be defined as broad generalizations from specific observations. So in inductive reasoning even if the premises appear to be true inductive reasoning allows for the conclusion to be false. In this article the author states “It is often thought that charter schools are an "urban solution" that is most effective and successful in inner cities with high minority and poverty levels, but that

Deductive reasoning is the opposite of inductive reasoning. Deductive reasoning is a valid form of reasoning. Therefore deductive reasoning starts out with a general statement and examines the possibilities to reach a specific, logical conclusion. So unlike inductive reasoning deductive reasoning both the premises and conclusion are true. I believe in certain aspects of the article there is some deductive reasoning for example the articles says that social networking sites cannot be blamed for bullying because bullying has been going on for decades. The only contribution social networking sites have made to bullying is that it is a more up to date technological way to bully a person versus back in the day when computers were nonexistent. So the deductive reasoning comes in to play because bullying has been around for decades it’s just now bullying has become more advanced due to technology. There is also inductive reasoning in this article because the article states that at Scotch Plains- Fanwood High School in New Jersey the principal believed

The first assignment I have chosen to do my reflection on is the module three newspaper article assignment. I chose this assignment because this module really got me thinking about the type of media we absorb based on external influences. Since the lead comes first in the inverted pyramid format, the reader does not have to take a long time to read the story in order to get a good understanding of what the story is about. Therefore, many would choose to read a newspaper story when they do not have a lot of time on their hands. I enjoyed doing this assignment as I like the concept of taking an iconic fictional story and converting it into a format that makes it appear as if it were non-fictional. It made the creation process entertaining and…

The blog post “Mother Hens Cluck: Cell phones support learning” is a better blog post than “Trust Your Gut: Blog post from a high school athlete.” To start off, the blog post “Mother Hens Cluck”, the reasons given are more logical than the blog post “Trust Your Gut” because if you look at the blog post, the evidence to back up the reasons are more clear cut of precise than the second blog post. For example, in the blog post they show numbers and statistics about the topic while the other blog post doesn't. Furthermore, the blog post “Mother Hens Cluck”, the soundest of the reasoning that she gives is more accurate than the blog post “Trust Your Gut.’’ For example, in the first blog post the reason that the teacher gives are logical and make sense while the the reasons in the second blog post are good, but are a little less logical and are a little bit more opinion than fact.…

I had my dictionary to the right and my phone to the left like every Sunday, knowing there would be four to five new words from his article to add to my vocabulary, or that I could employ in one of my future op-ed pieces. My algorithms were fingertips away, ready to dissect and analyze his article for its strengths – trust me, they had no weaknesses. I checked the website, but his article wasn’t there. Later in the day, I checked again and after church I kept on checking, but it never came. Perhaps he was on a well-deserved vacation, I thought.…

She provided various opinions of an author, the local community, government officials, parents, and a universal law professor. Incorporating multiple sources allowed for a stronger writing. The strength of her writing comes from just that, the many sources. Another part of her article which strengthens her writing is that her gathered evidence include both sides of the case. For example, pro-Boomer, a UCLA law professor shares their opinion, while against Boomer, the local community’s opinions were also shared going against Boomer. Simon’s writing has included sources for both sides. The problem with a weak explanation is not present in her article because both sides are presented.…

The unstated premise of the argument is that if cyber-perpetrators are left unpunished, those who fall victim to cyberbullying will get hurt and potentially harm themselves or others. Our nation as a whole will suffer the consequences of cyberbullying if our government fails to enact laws, and promote more programs in our nation’s schools to protect our children. We need to do more to promote advocacy, education, and awareness from acts of hatred, such as cyberbullying.…

The general consensus of the feedback given in the former weeks, namely week’s one, two, and four show that there is a good job being done in the writing of the topics. Main points are covered and the papers are presented in a clear and easy to read manner. However, the points made need to have more substance – that is, more supporting evidence as it were, specifically details, examples and analysis will help with the quality of the paper being increased. The other area that needs to be watched is the APA style. But…

This syllogism is inductive. I believe this to be true because one of the premises is probable; it is possible for the conclusion to be false. Students may take a humanity class other than critical thinking. I do not think this syllogism is deductively valid because one of the premises may not be true and that could make the conclusion is false. The premises are: All college students are required to take a Humanities class, and all college students take Critical Thinking. The conclusion is critical thinking is a humanities class.…

This article though could have appealed a tiny bit more to the life of less privileged kids in New York, although it mentioned the phone trucks it could have used more perturbation in some of the paragraphs. The wealthier children in various parts of New York did not have to pay to place their phones in these storage trucks but rather they could merely just shove it in their pocket and not get caught. I thought this was quite unfair , in your article I noticed many of weasel words and persuasive techniques you used to convey your own point of view.…
