for working and middle-income Americans”. This could be very promising to the lower and middle class Americans; however, every presidential candidate states these promises, but at the end of the day they never pursue them. Another promise Trump is making is that he wants the upper class Americans to pay their fair share when it comes to taxes, even though he did not pay his own. According to Daniella Diaz, “When Hillary Clinton said that her Republican rival Donald Trump had paid no federal income tax in some years, Trump didn't deny it. In fact, he said: "That makes me smart." Trump states he wants all wealthy and upper class Americans to pay for their portion of their taxes, but he refuses to pay his own taxes for the country he wants to run. Although taxes cause many problems among American classes, immigration causes a bigger effect to America. According to the Trump campaign website, he said “Turn off the jobs and benefits magnet. Many immigrants come to the U.S. illegally in search of jobs, even though federal law prohibits the employment of illegal immigrants.” I understand that it is unlawful for immigrants who are here illegally to work, but if you look at most immigrant workers they do most of the hard work and dirty jobs that most of us, Americans will not do. They do not care what job they have as long as they are getting a pay check to support their families. For example, if you look at most construction workers they are mostly from third world countries, usually from Mexico. Out of the 9,935 people employed in construction, 28.5 percent are of Latino decent (Bureau of Labor Statistics). This is a great example because they come here illegally to live the American dream and come to help support their families, most of which are left behind. I understand that it is wrong for them to come here illegally and that they should go through the correct process, but we also do not know what they go through in their country and why they left. On the contrary, Donald Trump has a great point also, in one of his campaign runs in Phoenix, Arizona he told American’s that “We also have to be honest about the fact that not everyone who seeks to join our country will be able to successfully assimilate. Sometimes it's just not going to work out.” (National Public Radio). This is a very true statement, sometimes the immigrants that we keep in the United States are not the best people in the world, some of them are criminals. We should deport illegal immigrants who do have criminal records because they are harming our country instead of boosting our economy. I believe in second chances and I think everybody should get a second chance in life. I am not saying once you get deported you are not allowed back in the country. If you have a certain number of years without a criminal record, then you should be able to apply to come back in the United States and work here legally. Having a possibility of issues with illegal immigrants, national defense is a main concern among our nation.
Many will say our national defense is great and some will say our national defense needs a renovation. Donald Trump believes it needs to be rebuilt and that it needs to be stronger. Having a strong military is very important if you want to be a successful country. When Donald Trump talked about our national security he mentioned “The Navy is among the smallest it has been since 1915.” (Matthew Rosenberg). However, Trump’s point is slightly invalid because he is comparing our Navy to a time of war versus now being used just for defense purposes. In fact, our Navy is more technologically advanced than in 1915. Another key issue that he addressed was, “Invest in a serious missile defense system to meet growing threats by modernizing our Navy's cruisers and procuring additional, modern destroyers to counter the ballistic missile threat from Iran and North Korea.” (Donald Trump Campaign Website). He makes a valid point when it comes to this argument because other countries have nuclear missile that we cannot defend due to the fact that we do not have a missile defense system. This will be a useful investment because we need something to protect our country from harmful missiles that can destroy our nation. On the contrary, he has a couple of key issues that he has addressed that are morally incorrect. One issue is the wall being built in between the boarder of Mexico and
the United States, this could go for both national and immigration defense. This wall can either be beneficial or detrimental. A beneficial outcome includes keeping drug trafficking and gang related affiliates out of the country. However, the wall can also do the opposite by hurting our economy. According to Stephen Collinson and Jeremy Diamond, “The Mexican leader told Trump that both the US and Mexico had benefited from NAFTA, saying more than six million US jobs rely on exports to Mexico.” Building a wall will hurt our economy in many different ways. Some of the ways that it will affect us is that it will cut jobs in half due to the fact that it will be harder to export things into Mexico. Building a wall in between the boarders is not a smart idea and it can hurt us more than benefit us. Donald Trump has proven to some he can be a great president and to others he has proven the opposite view. Trump has many different platforms in his campaign that some will agree on, but on the other hand he has many platforms that many people will say is absurd or ridiculous. As a great business man and entrepreneur, he is experienced with handling money which in turn could help the economy and debt issues. In conclusion, after extensive research the cons outweigh the pros. Donald Trump is not ready to run this country and become the president of our nation.
