Three of my flights were delayed due to the “Snowmageddon” and I was extremely late arriving in Indianapolis, but I wasn’t the only one thankfully. We got shuttled to the camp which was held on the Indiana State Fairgrounds and it took a half hour to get there. We got to the camp right at dinner time which was at a nice eleven P.M. I got set up with my sleeping bag on the men’s floor and quickly fell asleep. The next day we woke up at eight in the morning and started the day with some yoga. The yoga turned into marching fundamentals and then it turned into sectionals. I got to meet my section leaders and I met the brass caption head or BCH. I was picked out during sectionals to play my audition first and I made my way to the audition room. I played my audition and again I heard the same thing but with a surprise. The BCH had been in the room for my audition and personally gave me the music to the show. I was ecstatic the rest of the camp that I was the first person to have a copy of the show. The three days I spent up there felt like an hour to me after that. I got a contract for the Blue Stars and I was ready for the summer, but before that was spring …show more content…
We set drill for the show and perfected the drill. We perfected the music to the show and added in visuals to give us more flair on the field. We were just counting down days until our tour started. Half way through spring training we got fitted for uniforms and shakos, which are helmets the corps wears. The last day of spring training we had everything packed up and ready to embark on tour. Tour was a two and a half month long joyride of living on buses and gym floors, stopping at Wal-Mart at three A.M and buying load of junk food and socks, and most importantly competing in competitions with other corps. The corps first performance was on that could be left out. Multiple problems with collisions and spacing between people riddled the show. The worst part of the performance was the field. The field was wet and muddy due to the thunderstorms that rolled through earlier which meant that the entire corps was sliding across the field the whole time. We kept getting better and better and added more interesting visuals to the show. In the end we made it to finals in Indianapolis where we first started. It was odd coming back to Indianapolis with the intent to place high in the leader boards. We felt the crowd cheering us on, the families yelling out names and infamous sayings. “Make us throw babies! Dylan we love you! I want you to make us cry!” I closed my eyes and soaked it all in.
