Economic ideologies are people’s beliefs in how an economy should be operated. How much of an influence should government have? Is the free market something that will help all member of society? Is income inequality a large problem that needs to be dealt with? Economic Conservatives and Liberals have different answers to these questions. Conservatives believe in the free market and desire less government intervention. A survey taken last year shows that people tend to align more with the economic ideologies of their friends more than those of strangers. The same survey was taken two years ago and had the same result. People aren’t always attracted to polar opposites, people gather together with those they are most similar or familiar with. This is a tendency possessed by human beings that ultimately makes people hear what they want to hear. Information that disagrees with what one believes will often be disregarded as being false or originating from an unreliable source. Information that supports what they think will only further engrain their thoughts and will give them a sense of over confidence. Eventually people with Confirmation Bias will find themselves in a situation similar to that of what Christopher Hitchens once described. People will build a wall around them, each brick blocking out the voices of others, with enough bricks and a large enough wall one will have of completely isolated themselves and will only hear their own

I know that confirmation bias is where a person has a tendency to favor information that goes along with their own beliefs. A person does this by gathering or when they remember information by picking out pieces of it. I think then that confirmation bias is some thing that we all do. I know for my self I have selective hearing. With this I pick out what I want to hear from a conversation, perceive it, and use it how I want to. My experiences that I have had with beliefs generating from their own confirmation have not always ended well. I know that nothing in life will happen…

They believe that we should rely heavily on the Government and their terms. Conservatives believe in the exact opposite. They believe in personal responsibility and they believe that the government should have very little to do with how we live. They believe that personal reliance is important in living and that in times of distress, having personal reliance is the only thing that is gonna help. Their views on abortion are of course very different. Liberals believe that a woman is in charge of her body and if they want to abort they should be able to. They also believe that the…

Unlike the liberals, conservatives were extremely pro-Catholic, and sought to maintain the power of the Catholic church in government, with little interaction with the state. Additionally they sought to keep the domestic economy healthy, yet opposed foreign trade, as contact with foreigners would transfer modern ideas that conflicted with the conservatives’ goals. Further, most conservatives were wealthy landowners, so their wealth was largely based on the success of domestic business. Conservatives believed in a strong military, central government, and while they did not necessarily favor the indigenous peoples, they benefitted from the cheap labor that they provided (Navia, 2015). Thus, in many ways, the conservatives could be described as the political opposite to the liberal…

Confirmation bias is the human habit of seeking information that confirms one’s judgments or assumptions. One’s current feelings about a situation, memory, or person influence one’s thoughts and memories about that situation, memory, or person. If one is feeling negatively about something or someone, the individual will often recall the worst factors or memories about that person or circumstances. However; if one is feeling positively about something or someone, the individual may recall the best factors or memories about that person or circumstances. This may also cause problems when someone becomes overconfident about someone or something; when his or her positive feelings lead to positive memories and positive expectations [ (Myers, 2012) ].…
