When a student wakes up in the wee hours of the mourning they feel tired and sleepy. They are trying to resist the temptation of pressing the snooze button. But if they do press it they will be late for school. School should start later because students will get more sleep. Be healthy/safe, and it will be beneficial to many people. Students should get about 8-9 hours of sleep but most students get less than 7 hours of sleep. Research shows students who have 8-9 hours of sleep do better in school academically than if they had less than 7 hours of sleep. Most students above elementary level sleep later because changes in their body shifts their body clock to sleep later due to them getting tired more slowly. A later start to school will allow these students to get the recommended 8-9 hours of sleep. Not getting enough sleep can lead to health/mental problems such as obesity, diabetes, depression, anxiety, behavior problems, and many more health or mental complications. Students might also be in danger to do drugs and other harmful substances due to depression and mental problems according to WebMed. But having a later or delayed start to school will give students enough sleep to be healthy and safe. There are many benefits to having a delayed school time. Teachers may have time to go to class early and prepare. People who drive students to school can have a good night’s sleep before they hit the road so they can avoid having an accident. Students will have less absences and will be more aware of what is happening in school. Students will do better academically because they are less sleepy. Overall there are many benefits about having a later start to school.
In conclusion having school start later will be greatly benefit students greatly. They would have enough sleep to do well academically and be healthy/safe. That is why I think school should start later.
