English 125 Class Reflection
What I have learned

Before I sign up English 125 lectures by professor Jim Keller, my average grade were

usually being a high C or a low B. I was always expected that grade because English is my second language so it seem far to ever happen to have an A in the class. However, surprise, I am

currently having an A in that class. After the first time having that good grade in this subject , I

am getting more confident about this. I am very pleased with the result, but also very surprise

with it because I never thought I would get a good grade in English subject. As an English learner, I am proud about it. During this summer lecture by professor Jim Keller, I learn many

valuable ways that could help me improve both reading and writing in college level. In this

course, the teacher helps us explore more depth about MLA format , vocabulary and even

grammar worksheet. I very appreciate the help

When I come to this country, I never learn about grammar or any

things related to it until I have taken English 125 teach by Jim Keller. Jim Keller is a good

college teacher. He is patience and friendly to his student, but also find a very interesting way to

make his student doing the work. In his grammar worksheet, we learn about when to use comma,

punctuation, quotation , pronoun and many more. In my opinion, grammar is the problem that makes English as a second English is harder than it looks. The reason it is so hard is because it

requires too many rule and exception rule. I can see the connection between English class and

other courses. For example, Art class requires students to write an art report with clearly states

details and correct MLA style format. Major in chemistry, the professor also does ask students to

write a report about chemical reaction. As you can see, writing an essay does have a little

connection with other subjects. One of the technique that I was also learn is skimming over

In week 4, we discussed the problems with the fiscal policy and how we felt about the limits of the fiscal policy. When spending is greater than income there is a deficit; a deficit is a shortfall of revenue payments. Some of the team struggles with understanding when the economy is in a recession, why a deficit is good for the economy. As a team we also reviewed the total debt in the U.S. and were all applauded by the trillion-dollar deficit that we are currently facing. We realize that this a huge issue that needs to be worked on by the Government. Words like “recession,” “deficit,” and “debt,” are tossed around all the time on television by every politician promising plans to fix them, but this class has really helped explain what these words actually mean. A few of learned that there are different types of deficits. A majority of our team seems to have a grasp hold on this information.…

The audience for writing project one final is for my instructor Heather Burford , for my ivy tech English 111 class . My peer response that I received was very helpful. I was told that I had some grammar mistakes. Also I had a suggestion to fix where I had one of my paragraphs. Also I was told that my writing was a little confusing English wise. But that what I hope to improve on in this class. I also had some good feedback saying that I had a good summery and understanding of the article. I tried fixing as much of my grammar mistakes as I could see and hear but like always I know this paper could be cleaned up better somehow. I just do not see myself what I could fix. I actually enjoy the topic because I actually knew who J.R. Simplot was…

    Ap Lang Reflection

Before taking AP Lang, I considered English to not only be my least favorite subject, but the subject I performed the poorest at as well. English to me was a malevolent thing that followed me around everywhere, around every corner. It was a formidable foe, a task greater than learning to tie my shoes. I could not grasp the ambiguous logic that English contained. Before taking AP Lang, I did not know what a “pronoun” was, or that apostrophes meant that a word was either possessive or a contraction, concepts many elementary schoolers would find rudimentary.…

While reading this article I reflected and thought about things I could have changed. What popped into mind was my AP History class. At the beginning of the year I had told myself that I would retake all tests I had done poorly on and done all extra credit opportunities but I didn’t follow through. I realized in the second semester that I had not done what I said. I currently have an A- in the class but that still doesn’t average my class grade to an A. I feel like if I would have pushed myself more I could’ve had an A both semesters. Like Socrates said, “ You have to want it as much as you want air.”…

This English course has given me a boost by making me write different types of essay, which in my opinion, was essential to my writing development. Honestly, I feel like I have learned so much in such a short amount of time. I would also like to emphasize that I found the book we used extremely helpful. And most importantly, all the strategies taught were a significant support to all of us, mainly the rhetorical ones.…

One of the items of writing I see that I’ve improved on is my MLA. When I started this class I truly thought my MLA formatting was on top of it, but I was very much mistaken. Every paper I’ve turned in class the biggest issue was MLA formatting, it was almost getting repetitive of how every time I turned in any kind of writing that required MLA, that it had major MLA issues. Even after rereading it, I still was surprised of how much I would miss. Overall what I have improved the most was my MLA, and what I still need to improve a pone is my…

After looking through the course catalogue, I question how people graduate in four years. Is it possible to cram all of the intriguing classes University of San Diego offers into a mere eight semesters? Before, I believed my path at USD was unwavering. Now, I still know I will never major in any subject held in Shiley, but stepping foot in that building will not immediately kill my GPA. I plan to major in Communications, but now, I see a possibility of adding a minor or two.…

I have chosen AP Literature and Composition as my next English course because I consider it to be a challenge and I expect myself to overcome it. I was recommended into this class by Ms.Dunlap after I completed 11th Grade Honors English so I decided to let it play out; to get the experience for the class. I tell myself to never give in even when the going gets rough. Another reason I have decided to take this course is because of the impact it has on your transcript. It is Advanced Placement so I like to think of it as an introductory class that will reveal what is expected of a student in an English college course. From this course, I hope to learn how to analyze works of fiction and interpret them using my own understanding. It will…
